New Jersey Nets acquire All-Star point guard Deron Williams from Utah Jazz

NEW YORK (BNO NEWS) -- The New Jersey Nets on Wednesday acquired NBA All-Star point guard Deron Williams from the Utah Jazz, only one day after Carmelo Anthony was shipped to the New York Knicks after the sixth-month trade drama.

In exchange, the Nets sent their rookie forward Derrick Favors, last year's number three overall NBA draft pick, guard Devin Harris, two first-round draft picks for 2011 and 2012, and a reported $3 million in cash.

At 26 years old, Williams - the 2005 third overall pick - is considered by many as the league's best point guard, but the Nets must continue negotiating because at the end of the season, Williams has the option to opt out of his contract and become a free agent.

For the past six months, the Nets had been directly involved in trade talks, rumors, and the sixth-month drama revolving All-Star forward, and former Denver Nuggets, Anthony. On Tuesday, he was finally traded to the Knicks in a nine-player deal.

In a separate trade, the Nets received forward Brandon Wright and center Dan Gadzuric from the Golden State Warriors for forward Troy Murphy and their 2012 second-round draft pick.

Since early January, New Jersey had been trying to trade Murphy, who has $12 million remaining in his contract. However, some reports say the Warriors could buy him out, making him a free agent.
