Very generically speaking, does it help or hinder (or is it indifferent) that a thai woman have/has a foreign boyfriend when applying for a tourist visa?

Just a thought from another post elsewhere but I'm thinking that when a guy speaks up and gets into the picture are embassy officials more likely to think there is more of a reason for her not to return to Thailand? Doesn't really apply to me since we are married, but just a fleeting thought. Are we better off staying out of the picture?

Well, for that matter I'm Australian, but the questions was generical in nature. In that I mean, ANY western country.

Although, now thinking about it, having an Aussie boyfriend and going to the USA would probably be a good thing... They (the embassy) would see the aussie b/f as a reason to leave!

But I did mean it for a foreign b/f where the girl wants to visit his country.

If the girl has a partner/friend, that girl is less likely to overstay or disappear....as it would affect more permanant plans

A Person on their own can disappear easier

Speaking from past experiences....

Embassies have several million or more reasons to deny any one even a visitor visa....

than to approve one....

If you want to be a little more certain that you or your significant other application for visitor visa stands a slightly better chance of being approved.... you'd better work backward....

Such as getting your personal congressional friends or senators to supply introductory invitation.... but then how many of us could afford that kind of luxury.... really....

The success rate was 100%.... but then there were only 2 such applications during the last four years.... :D

Each application is judged on its own merits has the applicant :

  • Employment
  • Property
  • Savings
  • Immigration history

All these things are taking into account when they process applications.

Add on to that a letter of invite, gaurantee of support etc... and having a foreign partner becomes a positive thing
