On a more serious matter (disregard my last topic  ).

The injector cleaners one can by in small bottles, do they work or is it just a waste of money. I'm talking about a diesel engine.

Anyone have any experience with this.

hi .remove the injectors and get them serviced . and the vehicle will do another 100000km . before they need servicing again .its not expensive to to do . with a diesel that the only servicing you need to do apart from filters and oil changes . james

The only thing that really cleans injectors is Ultra Sound equipment designed for the job. Modern fuels do have stuff in to supposedly keep everything clean. The stuff of the shelf will do little, the idea of that stuff is to put some in the fuel now and again but will not remove high mileage tarnish. :)

Yeah !!! just get your injectors cleaned at the next service with your wiper blades.  .

Sorry, I can't comment on wiper blades. :whistling:

take it to a service centre that specialises in diesel vehicles and get it serviced .it will stop smoking and you will get improved milage again . .. james sydney and hat yai

Hi,

On a old car, ok..

But cleaning injectors on a modern car is not recommendent as the injectors might fail directly or later and worst case causes a complete engine brakedown (hanged injectors causing hydro lock). For todays car even some have classified injectors or corrected via calibration settings in the engine ECU, so the tolerence level is not any more the same as in old days.

Best regards former Bosch / Denso calibration engineer.

A few years back I had the injectors cleaned on my 98 honda city in Pattaya (while I was on holiday there). I don;t know what they did but it made a quite noticeable difference to acceleration - hitting the redline was easy compared to before cleaning. So it might help delending on how dirty your injectors are. As mentioned n ultrasonic bath is the best method.

Hi Egg,

It should be classified as a "old" car so go ahead, but be aware about the garage is using the injector cleaning as selling point to get more money, and is really not a technical concern. Alternative is to fill two tanks with Shell V-power, should "clean" as good.

Have a nice day!

IF !! you can find a place that cleans with Ultrasonic ( Ultrasound ) apparatus, that is the way to go. :)

They put the injectors in a glass front machine, hook them up to a fuel line and you can see the spray pattern of each one. Then the ultra sound clean and refit in machine to see their cleaning results. :)
