ISLAMABAD, PAKISTAN (BNO NEWS) -- At least five militants were killed in Pakistan after a U.S. air strike in the country's northwestern region on Tuesday, Pakistan's the Nation reported.

The U.S. drone air strike fired two missiles targeting a militant compound in Pakistan's tribal region of South Waziristan, which is near the border of Afghanistan. The compound was located in the village of Landidog, just 20 kilometers (12 miles) west of Wana.

The United States is most active in the North and South Waziristan area as the region is known to be a stronghold of the Haqqani Network, which is considered one of the top terrorist organizations and threats to U.S. forces in Afghanistan.

The U.S. drone campaign in Pakistan is aimed at disrupting al-Qaeda and Taliban-allied insurgents in the border area with Afghanistan, which the United States considers to be the most dangerous place on Earth.
