Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

Need a bit of help here, how would you say this sentence in Thai : I'd like express a word of thanks to ....... for their help and support.

Thanks guys

ผมขอแสดงความขอบคุณต่อ......ที่ให้ความช่วยเหลือและให้กำลังใจ

Sadly, I failed to see how the previous post with just a ‘LOL’ and smiley GIF answered the O/P's question  . Then again, I’m not the sharpest knife in the drawer :whistling: .

Even Google Translates; which is known for offering out some whacky translations :ermm: got this one pretty close when using the thai and asking for engrish; "I extend my sincere thanks to ...... that provide assistance and encouragement".

It sure seems pretty spot on insofar as answering the O/P's question of the "formal speak" or ultra polite level of Thai. Now would it be considered "เวอร์" (over the top) in a lower, casual or informal environment? Of course it would :D .

At a meeting or in a professional setting, you'd be hard pressed to find anything more polite or which would convey the meaning the O/P wants to say. Now maybe one of the more learned foreigners who speak thai could weigh in, but what was offered was pretty darned close. Especially when talking to support crew or staff which helped you achieve goals or meet a deadline with a project.

FWIW: I've got a book which teaches business Engrish to Thai native speakers (sadly I lent it out) so can't refer to it. It has a whole section of how to politely encourage, thank, disagree and reprimand both subordinates and to a lesser extent a superior. It has what a Thai native speaker would say, what a native English speaker would say and then the karaoke version which pronounces the engrish words with Thai script. Quite the useful book really (if you can read Thai, that is ;) ).

Thank you "tod-daniels" for your encouragement.:jap:
