Indonesia to produce 1,000 rockets to boost defense system

JAKARTA, INDONESIA (BNO NEWS) -- The government of Indonesia on Thursday announced that it plans to produce 1,000 R122 rockets to support its defense system, officials said.

Indonesian Defense Minister Purnomo Yusgiantoro said the country's Technology Assessment and Application Agency, along with the ministry's research and development team, have agreed to the production of the rockets, Indonesia's Antara news agency reported.

With a cruising range of 15 kilometers (9.3 miles), the R122 rockets could be used for an artillery ammunition as multiple launchers, Yusgiantoro explained.

Furthermore, the project would be carried out from 2012 to 2014, time in which the Indonesian government also plans to develop a "remote pilot vehicle" and an "area vehicle" as well.

Umm, who is threatening Indonesia? Is Timor threatening an invasion?

Why is military build-up {anywhere} often associated with the terminology "defence"? Clearly, such activity has everything to do with an aggressive offensive posture.

1000 Rockets eh, for 'defense', I bet they're for export.

Defence is big big business, is it not?B)
