trainman34014
Just bought a new oven....a proper one like Mum used. Will now enter a baking frenzy for Scones, Fairy Cakes and a lot of other goodies but does anyone sell Caster Sugar and /or Icing Sugar ? Can't say I've ever noticed any on the shelves. Penkoprod
What a lot of people do is put ordinary granulated sugar in a blender, or food processer, and blend to as fine a powder as they need. In other words, the finer the sugar needed, the more time in the blender All caster sugar and icing sugar are, is.......sugar after all. That, or not THAT different as to make much difference Maybe put some cornstarch in with the sugar, too? Penkoprod
butterisbetter
Both caster sugar and icing sugar are available at most supermarkets or at Bakersmart or Yok. Because of the current shortage of sugar, caster sugar may be a little bit difficult to locate. As noted above, if you have a blender or food processor it's easy enough to make. You might especially want to do that if you get an off brand of granulated sugar. They tend to be quite coarse.
