Two suspected English drug dealers arrested in South Pattaya.

We joined Police Colonel Somnook, the Chief of Pattaya Police at house number 106/16 in Soi 17, South Pattaya where he made a major drugs seizure and arrested three men. Two of the arrestees are British Nationals, Mr. Martin Ward aged 39 and Mr. Paul Bangle aged 42. The other man is a Thai, Khun Songlan aged 26. A total of 10 kgs of Marijuana, and 334 Packets of Cialis, which is similar to Viagra, which were later found to be fake, were seized. According to the two English men, the Cialis tablets came from a friend in China which were in fact herbal tablets repackaged here in Thailand.

This operation netted the pair in excess of 100,000 Baht per month. The Marijuana was received from a Thai man known as Larn from Huoy Yai sub-district for 9,500 Baht per Kilo. Khun Songlan was arrested previously in possession of Marijuana and Cialis tablets and confessed to Police that he purchased the drugs from the English suspects and agreed to participate in an undercover operation which led to this arrest. Both English men have been charged with serious class 5 drugs charges and dealing in counterfeit licensed medication. If convicted they are expected to receive substantial prison terms here in Thailand. The British Embassy in Bangkok are working closely with the Police to ensure the pair are treated in accordance with the law.

Can you get into trouble for selling fake drugs?

I mean, if its fake, then its not drugs is it.

Can you get prosecuted for selling baking powder - (even if you were pretending its cocaine)

In a perverse way you're helping the junkie.

I'm thinking since they were "herbal tablets from China, repackadged here in Thailand", the "intent" was there, and maybee counterfiting charges?

As is most often the case... there's more to the story than what PCN does on it's "show and tell". These guys were making international shipments of pot.

What do you think they'd get for a kilo of marijuana when sent to the USA/UK/Oz??

I would hazard a bit more than the 9K baht they paid.

And for Digger's question, the answer is a LIFE sentence.

Britons arrested in Thailand

Thai police have arrested two Britons. Martin Ward, 39, and Paul Bangle, 42, were arrested with 10 kilograms of marijuana at Ward's home in Pattaya, 68 miles south-east of Bangkok, said police Lt Col Chaiwat Paensuwan.

He did not know their home towns, but said Ward had a Thai wife and had been living in Thailand for many years. Bangle is his business partner, Chaiwat said.

The marijuana was wrapped in seaweed and was to be sold and delivered by mail to customers in North America and Australia, police said.

The two men were arrested on charges of possession of marijuana for purposes of trafficking, for which they face a maximum penalty of life imprisonment if convicted, Chaiwat said.

=======================

Also... don't forget the PCN stated the operation was netting in excess of 100K baht/month (btw, did the accused quote this figure or did the police find accounting books?). Either way, whenever you see that that little phrase, it can really mean A LOT MORE than 100K. If they're mailing kilo's around the globe, I'd bet it's A LOT MORE than 100K/month.

Imagine taking that lot into the post office, weighing it and posting it off - must have smelt rotten even before the shipment left which I assume is what they would want to put of any sniffer dogs randomly checking packages.

In the UK you can certainly get prosecuted for selling a fake drug. Most drug offences in the UK require you to actually have a 'controlled substance'. If they offer cocaine or heroin or whatever and supply you with a legal substance, ie baking powder, then they would be charged with "offering to supply a controlled substance". It is the offering of a controlled substance that is the offence. If it turned out to be actually be a drug they would be charged with "supplying a controlled substance"

If they catch you with baking powder and it was for personal use, then you cannot be charged with possession of a controlled substance, regardless of whether you thought it was a real drug.

it is , as i originally posted , about 170 a week each. , do your maths einstein.

and you humphrey.

100,000b/month between the two of them works out at about 170 pounds /week each.

100,000 baht is £ 1,389 at 72 baht to the pound.

Split it in two - £ 695 each in a month.

Take 4.26 weeks in a month - £ 163.-

My criticism was that it was not £ 700 per month, but much more.

then lets split the difference and put this one to bed then !

even i feel sorry for them after seeing the photos

you can almost see right into their souls as the realisation of what the future holds for them slowly sinks in.

just look at the expressions on their faces.

Doesn't thailand consider drug dealing as mass murder? As in, if someone kills a person in the heat of the moment they will get a more lenient sentance than someone importing/exporting/dealing drugs, as their intent was to sell to many people & in the eyes of the law in LOS that is consituted as attempted mass murder.

(I saw a documentary a while back with a monk explaining about the prisoners who die in thai prison & how they are classed as worse than someone who murders one person as they potentially could kill many)

I feel bad for them but they are hardly kids are they & couldn't have been unaware of the penalty for getting caught. :o

I feel sorry for the old aged pensioner who gets whacked over the head by some spaced out low life piece of S..t who is only interested in the few coins in her purse to feed his own selfish and self inflicted drugged crazed pursuit.

Might be labeled a sub conscious attempt at trying to emulate high flying chicken leg catwalk fashion models or baby CHAV football players..but the outcome should still be the same....... :o
