Deadly cobra that escaped NYC zoo is captured

NEW YORK (BNO NEWS) -- A deadly Egyptian cobra that escaped the Bronx Zoo on Friday has been captured, sources told Fox 5 on Thursday, and officials have scheduled a news conference to announce new developments.

The highly venomous 20-inch-long (0.5 meter) snake escaped from its habitat on Friday, although officials had said they believed it was hiding somewhere inside the Reptile House. The area has been on a lockdown since, as the cobra is capable of killing a person.

An account in the snake's name became extremely popular on the social networking website Twitter since his escape, setting off a media hype. By Thursday afternoon, @BronxZoosCobra had 201,500 followers and last tweeted "the cobra" was at Yankee Stadium.

Where the real cobra was found was not immediately known, but officials have scheduled a 4 p.m. ET news conference to announce developments in the case.
