Looking For A Good Gyna Or Other Options In Cm

Featured Replies

I used for more than 10 years Mirena birthcontrol only to temper my hormonal swings. I had severe PMS and was 2 out of 4 weeks literally sick and depressed. Mirena was very helpful and when I started using it I felt much, much better. Unfortunately, last time it was not possible to have it incerted (i'll spare you the details) So the gyna in Europe gave me a very light pill instead (Yasmin), but that didn't work for me.

The whole hormonal process is killing me, life can be a hell for women! Hahaha...wink.gif

I'd like to talk with a specialist about other options to temper the swings. I am also open for complimentary (alternative) options.

I'm kind of a natural kind of a girl, so the natural the better.

Thanks! jap.gif

I'm afraid you won't likely find a specialist up to date on this in CM (or for that matter elsewhere in Thailand) but I can tell you what worked for me and has generally been shown to work for others. i suffered horribly from thai for years, thankfully menopause has since solved the problem

1. Progesterone: natural progesterone is usually more effective than synthetrics but limited in availability in Thailand. What you had with the Mirena was a synthetic progestin called levonorgestral, released gardually via an IUD. I gather you had problems with IUd insertion next tiem around. However, you can get the same drug implanted under the skin. Brand name in Thailand - Jadelle or Norplant. Since the Mirena worked for you, this may be worth trying. Will also prvide contraceptive protection.

In addition you can buy a micronized oral form of natural progesterone in Thailand, brand name Utrogestan. becauase it is in oral form it is less than ideal because you don't get such steady levels, but it is better than nothing (of for soem reason the implants don't work) and/or can be used in addition, as they give very quick relief. For the quickest relief, prick the gel capsule with a pin and let it dissolve inder your tongue.

2. SSRIs: 50 mg sertraline has been shown to be effective and in soem women need only be taklen during thje second half of the cycle. Brand names in thailand Zoloft (import), Setra and Sertraline GPO. See attached article.

Personal;ly I took sertrakline 50mg every day and then natural progesterone starting from about day 10 of each cycle )in gel form) and an occasional utrogestan for additional relief when needed.

In your case since the Mirena worked I'd get the implant first and then condiser going on sertraline if that alone didn't do the trick. As with all meds, read up on side effects etc.

Good luck!

Sheryl, thank you so much for the post. Wow, you did some homework before menopause arrived...

Mirena was ideal, menstruation-free and only around 1/10th of the hormones compared to the pill.

Yasmin pill made me nautious, I woke up at night to vomit and in the morning I was so sick. My body obviously rejected this stuff.

I react overly sensitiv to everything, so I really need to be careful what I take in.

Sheryl, did it also work for the cramps, nautiousness, headache etc?

Nr.2 SSRI= antidepressiva... I think this would only help against the psychological inconveniences, not for the physical part.

I can't wait until I' m in (after!) the menopause!

I didn't have nausea, headaches etc so can't say as to that. I just had really, really bad mood swings -- the "crazies" was how I thought of it. Along with some physical clumsiness and memory issues. For a full 2 weeks before each period and then as soon as period started it was like a curtain lifting and sanity instantly restored.

I can't imagine why Yasmin was suggested as it (1) contains estrogen, which usually makes matters worse and (2) contains an altogteher different progestin to the one that apparently worked well for you.

Mirena is available in Thailand. You don't mention what the issue was that prevented reinsertion but if the problem has resolved then why not get it? Otherwise the closest thing to it is the implants, as mentioned.

I've been using progesterone cream for the last 2 years and it's saved my life, here in Singapore it's easy to get but since I'm moving to Chiang Mai in a couple of weeks I was wondering how I can get it there...apart from asking my Singaporean friends to send me some....any ideas on who may carry some? And really, is there no naturally inclined gyno or holistic/integrative medicine doctor in CM?
