OhMyCod Posted April 14, 2011 Share Posted April 14, 2011 Hi, Does anyone know if it is possible to exit Thailand at the Aranyaphratet / Poipet crossing and stay in no mans land, to visit the casino or buy duty free free example. then re-enter Thailand without entering into Cambodia. This means you check out of Thailand; you check in to Cambodia; you do the casino stuff; then you check out of Cambodia; then you check back in to Thailand. daveh Posted April 14, 2011 Share Posted April 14, 2011 I tried this and you cannot do it. I left Thailand, went to the casinos, then tried to go back and they told me I had to enter Cambodia first. So I walked through no-man's land entered Cambodia (I already had the visa), crossed the street and exited Cambodia, then walked through no-man's land again back to Thailand then they allowed me to re-enter. There is no such thing as 'no mans land'. Cross half way over that small bridge over the stream and you are in Cambodia. The Casino's are on undisputed Cambodian soil and governed by Cambodian law. Just because they may be before a Cambodian immigration checkpoint doesn't make that land any less Cambodian, any more Thai, nor does it infer that it belongs to 'no one'. As others have said, it is possible for Thai passport holders to visit the Casino's without having to get stamped into Cambodia. But you certainly have to get stamped out of Thailand. I certainly have. Not possible for foreign passport holder to do the same though. To travel any further than the Casino's however, even Thai citizens need to get stamped into Cambodia. It depends, it seems, on the time of day, being early, the border police and the mood of the staff. . Last year I drove past the Thai booths without challenge, did my shopping at DF and returned to the Thai side without challenge. A couple of months later I was challenged and sent back. An officer insisted I process my passport. Last week I went to Malaysia, but at the Thai booth the officer thought I only wanted to visit Duty Free. She said "just go there, no need for passport". No reprimand or whatever even though he could see all my previous exit / entry stamps and must have known I was pulling a fast one. Not exactly as if it was my 1st time through. Silly?
