Indonesian police identify suicide bomber of Police station's mosque

JAKARTA, INDONESIA -- Indonesia's National Police on Monday announced that the suicide bomber of the Cirebon police station's mosque was identified, the Antara news agency reported.

"DNA test result has indicated 100 percent that Muhammad Syarif, a 32 year old man was the bomber," said National Police spokesman Anton Bahrul Alam.

Syarif was identified after police took DNA samples from his father, Abdul Gofur, 66, and his mother, Srimulat, 60. The suicide bomber was also labeled as a "new player" in terrorism.

On Friday, Syarif detonated himself at the Adz Zikro mosque inside the Cirebon police station compound in West Java. He entered the facility with an explosive device strapped to his stomach.

Syarif sat behind the police chief and set off the bomb as morning prayers began. The suicide bomber was killed and around 30 people were injured in the attack, most of them police officers.

The National Police also informed that it seemed that the 32-year-old terrorist was not affiliated with any terror organizations. The ongoing investigation has not found out the motive behind the attack.

However, investigators claimed that it was impossible that he carried out the attack by himself. After releasing a sketch of the suspected suicide bomber, Syariff's relatives were questioned. The wife of the terrorist said she had not seen him for the last two weeks.

Syariff is one of the eleven individuals involved in a local organization in Cirebon who were involved in the vandalization of Alfarmart shop. Six of them have been arrested.
