PHUKET: -- Officers from the Royal Thai Navy Third Area Command in Phuket distributed relief packages to people suffering from floods and landslides in parts of Krabi earlier this month.

Group Capitan Parinyatham Pulpitaktham, head of the Disaster Mitigation Center’s civilian affairs and public relations department, led the effort to badly hit locales from April 12 to 17.

Areas receiving assistance included Nong Talay, Tabprick, Klongya, Klonghin, Ao Luek and Plaipaya.

The servicemen also installed toilets for homeless victims taking refuge at a temporary shelter set up near Chong Mai Reservoir in Klonghin subdistrict, Ao Luek.

Over 60 people died in the flooding, which caused property damage that could approach 10 billion baht, Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva said after the disaster.
