Some have suggested that additional paper can assist in obtaining a tourist visa. We don't want to overwhelm, but make a clear case as quickly as possible.

Maybe it all just gets chucked in the bin...

Here are some of my ideas based on my reading here. Please thumbs up, down -

Loose itinerary, big type, easily reviewed.

Photocopy of visa to US from prior visit ten years ago

Letter of guarantee to return to job

Photos trip her/us international (p1) - should these show us together?

Photos of her/us on various trips in Thailand (pg2)

Our FB links (2 - big and bold) to hundreds of photos of us, happy and traveling together

University diploma photocopy

>>She read somewhere about a letter of invite from my parents might be good idea (we will visit them a few weeks). I think its a bad idea as it might be perceived they are inviting her to come and live. I think the admin reviewing it will just come to a quick judgement and not read the letter.

Five Reasons why she will return

Five Reasons why I will return

*Promise from me (us?) that we will not marry on this trip nor have any intention of living in the US at this moment in time.

>> My Passport photocopy? I'm not crazy about the current photo.

I really do not have any attachment to Thailand, but I have far less to the US. I return to Asia every year and have done so more or less for nearly twenty years. This will never change. I can produce perhaps an airline mileage summary that shows my trips back a decade. Prior to this I flew the best/cheapest and had no allegiances.

Thanks for your input

IMHO--If she has proof of a decent job to return to, the money in the bank for the trip, proof that she has left the country before and returned--you should keep your stuff out of it. I don't think they would see you as an asset.

As for the letter from the parents---I am not sure about that. I have read that it makes a mark against because the reviewer sees that as a sign they will want to stay. But most of the Thais I have met on visitor visas here in the US came to see family and it was not a problem

Thanks. I told her the same about the letter.

The more I have been thinking about it, I am going to stay out of it although I will be listed in the application as a friend and the US address. No way round this as it is the truth and I think a single Thai woman going to US "independently" is a flag right there unless shes 40++ and well off (maybe).

She has a few FB Thai friends (1-2), no family in US.

She has a solid job and guarantee letter, visa prior to USA, multiple trips thru Asia and her bank account should be about 300k by the time she gets the interview.

It is what it is.

Thanks Andy.

We just completed the app and looked at the appt schedule - what an abortion that is scheduling thing is.

She will have a letter of job guarantee on company stationary - get this next week. She has a modest job in a high profile company, nearly 5 years. Like me, she was bitten hard by the travel bug. So career always played 2nd to tripping.

Copy of a bank book - why not eh?

Diploma - Why not. Better to hand a stack of good paper and let them toss it back.

Photos - I can't recall if the app asked for trips outside Thailand prior or if it was just the outdated 160 manual. So, why not - small photo album on one page. Think photos are better, gives the reviewer a break from reading - they are fun.

My passport is pretty fresh (only 1 year of stamps), too bad I don't have the other four.

I'm sorry to drag this up again -

We have an appt and I am starting to freak out a bit. My gf was talking to a friend at work who recently got a visa and she stated that a serious hurdle will be us coming back / not marrying in states.

OK consensus is that I should not include any of my personal paperwork and much of what I rattled off about her paperwork will most likely get tossed back at her. Got it.

As I have no job or any reason other than her to return, I am concerned. Funny, at my age, I would go to a dozen different countries before going back for good.

Andy suggested I give my gf my passport - no harm but I've only traveled on it about 18 months by the time we get to the interview. It will be about half full.

>>Is this such a stellar idea that I should have my old passports mailed out? They certainly show that I spend little or no time in the US.

>>I'm also going to include a printout of my airline mileage showing annual travel on one particular airline since 2005.

How about a statement affirming that I will not marry her while on our trip to states??

ANDY:

would also suggest giving her your passport to take to the interview, as this can show your proof of travel together and the fact that you don't spend much time in the US, if they ask about this (if not, she can just keep it in her pocket...)
