I say for a female who is drunk and screws around like a man, like a dog, is promiscuous!

I came out from not having had one sexual encounter before my wife and so did she. We are still together after decades. This is a culture modern people have forgotten and despise. Free sex? Sex education? Good? How about learning respect?

You may ask that again if you tell us that you would condone your daughter the same way you condone your son for sleeping around! Duh!

? Either way it's their choice. So yes, I am asking again.

Men are like dogs. Many can make out in public as long as there is a hole they can drill into. For the females, excluding the professionals, I always believe that they have a certain affections for the man for them to get intimate with them.

Affections yes, and/or a Bacardi or two.

I enjoy taking to bargirls for I'm at ease and can utter 4-letter words without getting reprimanded like my wife does!

What does age and status have to do with it? My wife sees it sometimes but not all the times!

When I get mad, I tell my wife that the somtam lady has more brain than her. She takes it seriously!

Should I try to to be hypocritical and say what she wants to hear?

I wish I have your attitude thinking the females are like some men who have no shame, but I don't!

Once an individual doesn't feel shame (sometimes they call it FACE), it signals a decay!

Are you saying that a single person should feel shame for having sex with another single person? What time warp did you come out of? Children are having sex at the age of 13 or younger, today. However, I do believe that on average, men are naturally more randy than females, but that doesn't mean we are all alike. I remember some of my school girl friends bragging that they had, had sex with every member of the football team. Later in life they acted like prim and proper high society women, but I knew their past.

I was a member of that football team and never had contact with any of your school friends. They must have lied to you. Girls, just wishful thinking, I guess.

So what does this have to do with the state of the Loi Kroh road?

The theme of this thread has been completely taken off track. Why not start your own thread? Title it: The promiscuous and morals of society, and then battle it out among yourselves? Lets hear more from those who are regular visitors of the Loi Kroh road and even more interesting, from those who own businesses in the area, would love to hear your opinions.

Good for you!

If you do have a daughter that does numbers like some on Loh Kroh, I admire your attiitude o what you seem often to boast about what progress is!

Good luck finding a son-in-law for marring one that does a number less than 3,000!

I was just replying to the comment that women who have sex before marriage are somehow evil, while it is okay for men to do so. I was just disagreeing.

It was you who started the topic on how seedy Loi Kroh road was. I have commented that I didn't think it looked any worse than any other street in the whole of Thailand. I've ridden through many towns, villages and cities in Thailand, and with the exception of the highrise area of Bangkok, the streets all look the same. I think there is a topic somewhere on just that subject. I highly doubt it will ever change. The shop keepers will continue to use the sidewalks to extend their business. Vehicles will park anywhere at any time and completely block lanes of traffic. Traffic lights will work most of the time, but drivers and riders won't pay much attention if someone else is going through a red light, and will just follow along behind. Police will have their weekly checkpoints to collect their tea money, but not do much else. Pickup trucks with loud, blaring speakers will continue to slowly drive down the streets and block all the traffic behind them. There will be grand, highrise hotels situated right beside a few seedy massage parlours. I don't see it ever changing.

Rene123, You've hit the hammer ight on the head, Beetlejuice forgets what he wrote in the OP, and I quote:

"When we were walking through the Loi Kroh road around 9.30pm, I was taken back just how seedy, dirty and squalid that area has become.

Dirty tatty little open bars full of gross drunken farangs, and the girls pretending that they find these guys cool and they're drunken rants amusing.

The BGs there appear uniformly unattractive. Not young, not old, average age perhaps around 30ish, but cheap and nasty..

We found the tactics of luring the men into massage parlours, by women in they're 30s and 40s, trying desperately but unsuccessfully to look 25, as aggressive and in our faces. Some actually screaming at us."

No hijacking here, just a continuation of the theme he/she/it established in the OP.

I do have a question for Beetlejuice, it seems that if in fact the Farangs were "gross drunken farangs" then the statement as to the BG's tactics as being aggressive would be an over statement, because we all know that after 6 beers all the ugly girls go home AND like the Navy saying (Applies to most males) Any Port in a Storm would make aggressive marketing of the girls services unnecessary.

My question: Is this just another one of your windup topics. You have been anti Loi Kroh for years and been predicting its' demise for as long as I can remember. Hasn't happened yet!

Whether it's OK to marry a prostitute seems to me to be a question that needs only to be answered privately between the customer and the service provider. It's no one else's business.

And as to whether Loy Kroh Rd is a shithole, I'd say that compared to other strips in other cities and countries that it's pretty tame.

Loy Kroh is OK except that corner on Thapae where they are really aggressive. Personally think better to keep most of the action (for lack of a better word) in the beer bar centres. In fact donks ago when I was in pre-Phuket today there were no real bars on the street, it was all inside a beer bar centre. As such, unless looking for a roll in the hay, made the whole place look better. Seems a good option for CM, it needs have its area, but not so in your face with ancient, flabby, foul-mouthed crumpets would serve all better.

corner of Thapae was Starbucks last time I looked and I assume Starbucks are not offering 'extra' services with their frothy Cappuccino's?

Hmm, I wonder if those who protest the existence of LK Road perhaps need to partake before their inner conflict leads them to advocate for the return of burning at the stake?laugh.png

Perhaps bring back the ducking-stool, which would appeal to both the waterboarding/torture and the wet-T-Shirt brigades, at one stroke ? rolleyes.gif

Burning-at-the-stake does after all generate harmful greenhouse-gases ! biggrin.png

Cue someone more-technical than I, to link to Monty Python's 'She's A Witch !' sketch ? laugh.png

They just showed Soi Loy Kroh on the Channel 7 News a few minutes ago. They have initiated a new police program called Operation "Safety Zone". A new special police force has just begun working the area. They wear military style khaki uniforms with black berets and can speak a number of languages. There are a few women police on the team. They said there has been an increase of crime on Loy Kroh recently, including sales of drugs and thefts. They said a number of foreign tourists (including women) have filed reports of being robbed while walking down the street. They said they will be cracking down on prostitution and will be searching the prostitutes they suspect as being sellers of drugs. They showed a couple of the police (presumably last night?) escorting a couple of Western men who looked to be in their 30's away towards the Night Bazaar, telling them it was past 12:00 midnight and "time to head back to their hotels". laugh.png They also showed a map of the area that looked like it had been supplied by Chez Marco Restaurant as Chez Marco was marked in English with a big star.

Please be careful, especially after imbibing an alcoholic drink (or three), in using the words 'ducking stool' around the Loi Khro vicinity for fear of being mis-understood whistling.gif

Some 660 posts and nearly 40,000 views about Loi Kroh! Those are awesome numbers! The road, however, is not so awesome; it is the fascination with it that is amazing! The discussion here gets focused on peripheral concerns, such as bar girls, but that's not all of what this road is about. This post is an attempt at being descriptive, not judgmental or prescriptive.

For those who have never been to Chiang Mai, check your Google maps to see that the one-way road in not very long. It goes from the moat to the East almost to the river. There is a lot of commerce on the road --- of varying kinds at varying hours. Part of that commerce --- easy to note --- has to do with bar girls luring in customers for a drink and, well, maybe something else, and katoi (males being females) lurking in shadows very late. On the other hand, there are some excellent restaurants along the way and (actually) some fairly fancy hotels (including the Meridian) near the Eastern end of the road. In between, there are lots of shops and various enterprises including massage "parlors" set up on the walkway. Some massage shops (basically off the road) offer what are called "happy endings" for horny males.

The road, if you like to explore, is really a safe road, unless, I suppose, you are looking for trouble. The big problem on Loi Kroh, if one insists that there is one, is probably parking!!

No, I don't work for TAT!

No, I don't work for TAT!

Isn't that the problem in all of Chiang Mai? With the exception of the few malls and big shopping centers. Judging by the number of motorbikes I saw chained together in front of the bars where the Superbowl was being played this morning, I would guess that parking is a major problem in the city..

Apologies for jumping in on a recent topic, been following this thread with great interest lately. It's surprising how much ire people appear to have for bar girls, many of whom don't have any other option in terms of a decent income.

It's also quite ironic that many who harbor distaste for such girls are also exploiting said girls home country, capitalising on a lifestyle or annual holiday in a weaker economy than their own home nation. In my view, it's a symbiotic relationship. Many flock to Thailand to exploit it for pleasure and personal gain, likewise bar girls are exploiting the tourist / expat to personally gain a lifestyle that otherwise would be out of their reach. It's a tad unfair for the 'foreign plunderer' to lounge in the lap of luxury in Thailand and not expect the natives to desire a better quality of life in terms of income. For those that point reproachful fingers, consider this: you are very much part of the problem, even if one does not partake in bar-finery.

If people feel that bar-girl culture is an issue or find it upsetting then start a movement or charitable organisation that may possibly help them rise up out of their unfortunate circumstances. Statistically speaking, enforcing a ban on such activities would push thousands if not millions into a life-endangering situation. Sitting around going 'tut tut' will amount to SFA. Alas, I suppose many farang would not bat an eyelid, as long as they get to sip their Pina Colada in the evening half-light, donning requisite beige chinos or floral summer attire.

I'm interested to know what thai people themselves think of bar-girl culture? Are they scoffed at and scorned by their own, or are thais more sympathetic to these girls and understanding of their circumstances? Once a girl enters the bar-girl trade does that stain her evermore, preventing her from ever gaining other forms of socially acceptable work? Can anyone shed any light on this?

Not sure what you are ranting about. Certainly nothing to do with Lo Kroh road in Chiang Mai.

I just dropped in to see where this thread had gone. Apparently to some other nameless city. Here in Chiang Mai we have very few high rises and the highest is only 22 stories high. Spent a little time in Nae Sot didn't see any high rises.

You are nit-picking, dolly... just like a grammar checker. Anything over 4 stories is a highrise in Thailand. All some of us are saying is that Loi Kroh looks like any other street in any other city in Thailand. When I'm riding my motorbike I have a hard time just picking out landmarks so I know where to turn onto a narrow soi in parts of Chiang Mai I am familiar with.

I went for a walk down LK a couple of weeks back, just to research this thread you understand.

I was amazed ...... apart from the first couple of bars on each side hardly any girls ....... mainly boys in frocks ....... crikey!

This was brought to you at great expense and effort. I`m trying my best and I can be very trying at times.

I don`t think this thread has had any influence at all.

Visited the Loi Kroh road last night and it`s still there.

Nothing wrong with visiting Loh Kroh having a few drinks and chats learning how other people live their lives. But if you go there looking for a boom-boom, that may be a different story, but then, there are people in need, hopefully they are singles! I saw some foreigners paying bar fines and then the girls came back after a while when I was still having drinks costing more than the bar fine plus more. I suppose their outings weren't the romantic kind! For me, having a chat with somebody different is worth the price and I'm not stingy on that. There is no need for any extra-curricular activity to warrant my spending!

You've got to admire the man who went to the trouble of marrying into all five levels of Thai society and then summarizing his experiences.

Loi Kroh is like the elephants graveyard for hookers.

Sent from my i-mobile IQ 6A using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

unfair... I know many girls down there and they are friendly, in the most part, and you get new girls turn up all the time I often go there for a drink or ten and rarely take home company but it HAS been known if a striking, new girl turns up - and they do! so best not to make sweeping statements and I'd say there were many downmarket bars catering to Thais with really rough girls (those shacks by the roadside) now they REALLY are the bottom of the pool
