6 Week Stay, In And Out Of The Country

Featured Replies

A friend and I are arriving in Thailand in about 2 weeks. We are both New Zealand citizens and both 25 years old. Our flight arrives and departs from Bangkok, but the duration between is about 6 weeks. We plan to travel through to Cambodia, Vietnam and maybe Laos over land.

As I understand we can get re-entry permits from Thai embassies in neighbouring countries, will this count as an extension to the 30 day period granted with the standard TV? Also, is it easier to get a TV at the airport, or should I apply tfrom my current location (Taipei)? We know it's easier to get the visa sorted back home, but natural disaster delayed visa processing for other countries hugely and we ran out of time before our flights departed.

Apologies if this has been answered in another recent thread. I did some reading of the info sections, but I'm still a little foggy regarding our situation.

You will get 30 days visa exempt stamp if enter by air.

15 days if entering by land.

A tourist visa can be obtained that will get you 60 days at arrival and can be extended with another 30 days at immigrations within Thailand.\

Apply at the Thai consulate in Taipei, cost 1000 baht.

Id you don't intend to stay more than 6 weeks and also visiting neighbouring countries then go with the vis exempt stamps.

Yes - as the above poster suggests - receive the visa exempt stamps as and when you enter thailand - 15/30 days each time dependant upon how you enter.

Enjoy your trip - it sounds great :-)

Yes ^^^

BUT!!!!!

If you don't have flights out of Thailand within 30 days (and you don't have a visa) you may not be allowed to board your flight from NZ :(

This is a Thai immigration requirement but is rarely checked by immigration themselves relying rather on the airlines to do the job for them.

"I don't want to know why you can't. I want to know how you can!"

Be on the safe side and apply for a tourist visa at the Thai mission to avoid being denied boarding.

Each airline has its on policy. EVA air is very strict, China Airlines checks but believe they will let you fly if you sign a waiver stating you will re-emburse them for all the cost if you are denied entry into Thailand.
