Mario2008
Be advised that Monday 2 May is a government holiday, as substitute for Labour Day. In addition government, and thus immigration, will be closed on 5 May in celebration of coronation day. The closure does not only affect the Thai government but also Thai embassies and consulates abroad. Foreign embassies and consulates in thailand might be closed on these days, check first with them. VisasPlus
I think the British Embassy is open on both days. Also the Honorary Consulate in Pattaya/Jomtien seems to be open.
Mario2008
Indeed they seem to be open. better to correct my statement and advise people to check first if their embassy or consulate will be open on these days.
opalhort
Mario I think Labour Day has never been a government holiday here. Only most private businesses close. My sister in-law has to work on Monday at her Khet.

lopburi3
Mayday has always been considered a Communist holiday and not officially observed by Government AFAIK. Most workers have the day off but not Government.
Mario2008
Conflicting information can be found on the internet (Nohing new there) Maybe wikipedia gives the best answer: It is not a public holiday but a day of national observence. 1 MayNational Labour Dayวันแรงงานแห่งชาติ (Wan Raeng Ngan Haeng Chat)Observed as a holiday by most of the private sector. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Public_holidays_in_Thailand#Public_holidays Thursday the 5th is for sure a government holiday. May the 2nd probably not. Sorry for the confusion.
