Work Permit Medical

Featured Replies

Hello,

Starting new job and have to get a medical.

Have done some searches and have seen people mention simple medicals that fulfill WP criteria for about 1000 baht (sounds good to me) and then some mention more radical medicals that take half a day and cost over 10,000.

Does anyone have any recent experience of what is needed for a WP?

Thanks.

The MoL has a form ... it is cheap and short and includes a blood draw and VDRL test.

Thanks for that fast reply...will wander into a hospital tomorrow.

It doesn't have to be a hospital. Any clinic with a lab that can do a basic blood test is enough.

I think my tests last year came to about 600 Baht at SriPat in Chiang Mai.

Where are u located?

If in Bkk then I can give you easy directons to a centrally located clinic which charges 200Baht including certificate suitable for WP and blood test report, Dr speaks English, normally can see Dr within 5 minutes, takes 5 minutes to draw the blood and 2 minutes for Dr. to check if you have two arms and two legs, blood report usually comes back the next day. Take your passport.

Has it changed recently? When I got mine, it involved a medical of about the same level as you need for a driving license, i.e. barely more than the doctor asking you how you are, you replying "fine thank you", and then declared healthy. This was a couple of years ago.

About the same in most places, but the blood test for syphilis is now mandatory.

Yes, I am in Bkk (Sukhumvit)

Thanks.

It probably depends what kind of work you do.

I had a 3 annual medicals here already and every time befide the blood work, they do a whole bunch of other things including hearing, vision, ECG, x-ray, etc, etc, etc...

I used to go to one in Bangkok and was charged 30 baht without even seeing the doctor.

The most recent in Bangkok was Bang Na hospital and was 250 baht - saw the doctor and he asked if I suffered from alcoholism, elephantitis etc. When I tried to explain that I was an alcoholic but didn't he was totally confused. Why on earth can't doctors in this country stay up with the rest of the world in this area.

It depends. The old medical exame is still being accepted at a lot of labour offices and only costs between 30 to 50 baht at a government hospital. The new test requires a blood test and will of course cost more. I recon about 500 baht. Some now require this test.
