geenkp
Yesterday I walked past the DVD stall where there was child porn on display last October. To my big surprise, again there were several child porn DVDs displayed openly for everyone to see. Didn't dare to take a picture for evidence. I thought that after the crackdown and a lot of negative publicity authorities would at least keep an eye out on it.

TheLaughingMan
I'd love to go down there and pull a "Jesus" and start flipping tables laden with kiddie porn in a righteous rage..... man that would be glorious, I'd probably be dead within 30 seconds though. Jingthing
The last time I reported this happening in Pattaya, there was a character here who claimed I was imagining things. I wasn't as many reported seeing the same type of stuff OPENLY displayed on tables in both Bangkok and Pattaya. Haven't noticed any recent resurgence of this in Pattaya, but on the other hand I don't walk on beach road often. It wouldn't be surprising as "crackdowns" are quite typically short term PR/money collection schemes anyway. Richb2004v2
A couple of years ago during the ASEAN meet in Pattaya their was a clamp down on DVD vendors. Only one of the dozens remained open on beach road. It had child porn openly on display. Figure that out. Cultural probably.

I went to the police van thing and reported it, but was told there is no point in arresting them as it is only a 200 THB Fine, and they will be back on the streets again within 10 mins !!! TheLaughingMan
And people wonder why I say negative remarks about the overall mental capacity of Thais. The world EXPECTS Thailand to be the hub of pedophilia, and letting kiddie porn run rampant is only reinforcing that stereotype. You'd think the authorities would do EVERYTHING they can to help abolish that terrible reputation but they don't. Geniuses? I think not.

Or not...:jap: poor effort..... He did say "or not". Yes the punishment for selling kiddie porn should obviously be several hundred thousand baht and mandatory jailtime, even if just a short time, but lots of money, that is what hurts them the most. If this was practiced, the industry would stop dead here. But the laughable 200 baht fine and mai pen rai attitude of retardedness will only encourage it. If I was Abhisit, Id drop EVERYTHING I was doing and fix this immediately. What the <snip> is more important? Get the dam_n kiddie porn off the streets and clean up your dam_n image. Unfathomable to a civilized human being to be involved in this crap in any capacity, to any degree. But, the laws aren't enforced because of the massive and lengthy chain of corruption. The corruption will never, ever, go away. Therefore, the laws will never be enforced except temporarily where it is profitable for the police. Money, in a place where some sell their daughters for a big screen, is everything.

Richb2004v2
It's a bit like the underage kids riding motorcycles. They can not be prosecuted because they are too young. No one has thought to simply change the law. That would be beyond their thinking capacity. More importantly there would be no money in it for anyone concerned. The same for the child porn vendors. Why spent time fixing the problem when at the end of the day no one will profit from it.

That's always been a point of contention with some thinkers. He's the definitive paradox, as such applies to ruling class personalities. Caught between the two respective cultures. Is the revered PM really Thai....? Or one of these born-again variety, mostly which his basic foundation is Farang?
