New Google Search Sucks

Featured Replies

It just looks very annoying, bad colors for colorblind people, very little contrast so it needs too much concentration to read and it need more scrolling to read the same content thanks to the useless big space and dotted lines in between the search results. Why they change something that is good ? So I replaced my Google Search shortcut by Yahoo Search http://search.yahoo.com/

For people who really hate the new Google Image Search (most do so) set this link as shortcut it's a URL trick just need to remove the dot every time, but that's far less annoying and time consuming to scrolling down the page and click 'use old search' for which you even have to wait until the page has fully loaded.

Looks the same to me. What change are you talking about?

Sorry - just googled it and see the new version - lot of fixes to maintain basic version are shown.

Sorry I don't get it either. Google.com looks to me like it's always looked. (or for a long time anyway).

Google image search is what it is. With a good ADSL line I think it works brilliant, but I can imagine if you're on some slow EDGE or dialup line it might feel sluggish. That's the minority of users globally though so probably a balanced decision they made.

I noticed the change yesterday and had to look twice to be sure I was on Google search or a domain parker. ;)

That's odd. Why am I seeing a different Google page?

I did go to google.com/ncr once to prevent it from always redirecting me to Google Thailand, maybe that's why? (google.com/ncr puts a cookie in your browser forcing it to always go to google.com regardless of your location).

If you figure out why let me know as I want the old format back. :D

//edit - the /ncr does work but I always use the Google search box in Firefox. Have to remember how to set the default to /ncr now.

It was my understanding that once you've been to google.com/ncr it puts a cookie on your browser causing you to always go to google.com regardless of locale. That's how it works for me both in Chrome, Firefox and on my Android phone.

Perfect Phil. Now my FF Google search comes up as before after using the /ncr once. Thanks for the hint.

You're welcome .... but it doesn't explain all of the story. I went to FF4 and deleted my google cookies, then searched for thaivisa through the url bar. It now came up with the results from google.co.th, in Thai, but still in the old format. Still don't understand how the new format comes into play...

That's the one indeed, this morning it was like that. Currently it's the 'old' style again but experience learned that they probably gonna change it permanently withing a few weeks. The same they did with the top link bar of iGoogle, first on and off for a week or two then changed it for the new design.

When it comes to change, sometimes it's hard to believe in. And sometimes it's just hard to believe your eyes.

Some people have begun to notice that their Google search pages look different from those they had come to know, love, and take for granted.

Suddenly, the pages seem cleaner. Suddenly, there's more white space. And suddenly the colors are greener and the underlinings beneath each search result have disappeared.

Naturally, this has led to troubling words from troubled minds.

Some have called the potential new look "ugly." Yes, ugly.

"What the heck was wrong with the old design?" asked a distraught Twitterer.

Google testing new search results pages?

More on the change

More here.

Google has rolled out to the general public a new design/layout for their results page, and it’s just as much like Bing as it was back when they were testing it back in January (there were rumors at the time that this was rolling out live for everyone, but it appears that a few more months of tweaking was required—Google’s official announcement on their blog says that this new look reflects feedback they’ve received from testers over the past several months). It’s so much like Bing that it’s alarming.

I like this quote ...

It’s so much like Bing that it’s alarming. [..] Copying your competitors who have only 20% of your market share is not generally considered a good strategy. You’re already beating them.

Only as long as that IP is assigned to a server. Google have a lot of servers. If you go to http://www.google.com/ncr just once it plants a cookie in your browser that will cause it to always go to US Google.

Thanks Phil, I will give it a try.

I use Google encrypted https:// its always in English PLUS it's encrypted. I set it as my home page and as my search primary engine in the FF browser.
