I got a new passport issued by the German Embassy today. However in my old passport is my Non Immigrant B visa (multiple entry) valid until December 2011.

How do I handle this? Do I have to see the immigration office for a transfer of the visa? Or can I just show up with my old & new passport at the airport immigration?

Immigration can never transfer a visa - to be used both passports must be presented.

This is correct, Visa's can not be transferred but you can travel without any problem with passports.

Hand over both passports to the immigration counter and they use the new PP for identification and the old PP for the visa.

All visa's in a old passport remains valid until expire date of the visa.

Thanks for the information! No hassle at the immigration office then :-)

What do you mean with the immigration office.

As mentioned before the immigration office can't transfer your visa.

You can travel with both passports but that's it.

I suspect he is asking about a return to Thailand - no problem showing both passports to use the visa at Immigration.

He may be talking about doing a 90 day report or something like that. I lost a passport, had an emergency one issued then just this past week got my new permanent passport. The old emergency one was cancelled and had the bottom of the first few pages removed. My first thought was, I hope immigration has seen this before. I'll see in July when I do my 90 day report. I think I will go early this time.

Very easy to transfer stamps to new passport and no charge, it really is a FREE service!

Visa’s can not be transferred to new passport only extensions to stay can be transferred. ( together with possible single or multiple reentry stamp )

As the OP mentioned a Non-B Multiple Entry I presume he received a Multiple Entry Visa from outside Thailand and therefore this can not be transferred.

I hope to receive my new British passport from Hong Kong soonest, it has taken 31 days so far, the last month must be some sort of record for public holidays!

I am leaving Thailand for China on the 18th, as immigration will be closed I will be unable to transfer stamps to new passport, has anybody any experience of this, from reading this post seems like it will be perfectly acceptable?

Suspect they will accomodate you at the airport and do it there, if it is not too bussy. But think the post office is closed till the 18th.

Do I not like the sound of this.

Sent mine nearly 3 weeks ago, still hasn't come back.

I expire on the 19th. This could become quite costly for me in terms of overstay fines, one is not amused.

And now their website isn't working.

Fantastic. I hope the British embassy in Bangkok are really pleased their nationals are having to pay so much additional expense.

Does anybody know if BKK immigration will help me out if my passport is not back in time? I don't have enough space in my passport for another trip, I'd rather not go on overstay.

They will consider it your problem, but might give you an extra 7 days for 1,900 baht. Otherwise it will be overstay at 500 baht a day.

All you can do is call "careline" at a cost to you, have your credit card ready, they can tell you the status of passport - nothing else.

New passport cost me a small fortune in lost earnings, expected it to turn around in 10 days as they "advertize!

I called 'careline'. They seem to have not many lines and not a lot of care.

I found it a bit cheeky that I have to pay for information about the whereabouts my own passport that I paid for, but I needed to know so I submitted my card details. The guy told me my card would not/could not be accepted. Marvellous. I was in a position where I needed to know about what is a very important document but the people holding that information were unwilling to speak to me.

So I called the HK embassy and after having to be a little curt to begin with, they were very understanding and helpful. A lady said she'd pass a message on and within minutes somebody called me back.

He said it's waiting to be printed and should be about a week. He also said that because I need it back urgently, he'd get my passport put at the top of the pile to get it processed quicker.

Kudos to those folks in HK

I transferred non-imm stamps from my wifes passport (kids were on it) to the kids new UK passports today, and was charged 500 baht each. I knew it should be free but just accepted a dodgy receipt as i dont want to get on the wrong side of the local office over not much. But was I diddled or is this a new rule?

Cheers

Did you provide the required copies? There has never been a charge for transfer form and have not seen any report of a change (but indeed policy has seemed to be changed on when transfer is required).
