Mubarak's wife suffers heart attack

CAIRO, EGYPT (BNO NEWS) -- The wife of ousted Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak on Friday suffered a heart attack after being questioned in a corruption investigation, the manager of the Sharm el-Sheikh Hospital said.

CNN reported that the manager, Mohamed Fatah Allah, said former first lady Suzanne Mubarak had been taken to the intensive care unit. Earlier in the day, she was detained for 15 days to be questioned over the corruption charges on his husband.

Assem al-Gohary, the assistant justice minister for the Illicit Gains Authority, ordered her detained for "obtaining illegal wealth using her husband's position and political authority."

The ousted president is accused of ordering the killing of protesters in Tahrir Square during the January 25 Revolution as well as many abuse of power and illicit profiteering counts.

He was questioned at the Sharm El Sheikh International Hospital on Thursday over the charges against him. On Tuesday, Prosecutor-General Abdel-Meguid Mahmoud extended the detention of Mubarak's sons, Alaa and Gamal, for another 15 days pending further investigation.

Meanwhile, the Illicit Gains Authority informed that after an investigation it was found that the fortune of ousted Egyptian president Mubarak was worth around $145 million, including his frozen Swiss bank accounts and a villa in Sharm El-Sheikh worth LE 36 million ($6 million).

His wife, Suzanne, is listed as the owner of another villa in Heliopolis, valued around LE 20 million ($3.37 million), added the Authority's Director Essam El-Gohary. The report is part of the investigation on the Mubarak family.

Mubarak ruled Egypt in a 30-year-long regime which began in 1981. He stepped down this year after weeks of anti-government protests by crowds calling for greater democracy and respect of human rights.
