"But running a firm is different from running a government."

Oh yeah? I seem to remember Thaksin running Thailand precisely as if it were one of his companies, spending more time in his company office than he ever did in parliament.

And does she really need any political or administrative experience, with older brother pulling all her strings?

Thailand is no stranger to having puppets in power - Thaksin's brother-in-law was so uncharismatic that I did not recognise him when I met him on the Sky Train one day, and I still can't remember his name. Abhisit is no great leap forward either, with senior gentlemen in uniform pushing his remote control - see Voronai Vanijaki's excellent article in Sunday's Bangkok Post, 22nd May, p 11.

Democracy? Give me a break!

this news report is very misleading if you read the whole interview

he mentioned that it would happen if only there is an intervention from outside power

Are you reading the same interview as I am?

Yingluck is Pheu Thai's No-1 party-list candidate. So, you have decided to make her the next prime minister?

I am thinking about it. The prime minister does not need to be No-1 party-list candidate. I am thinking about it back and forth. First of all, Thai politicians are bent on destroying rivals. Anyone who becomes the government leader will be destroyed. Both true and untrue stories will be cited to try to destroy the government leader. So, I feel sorry for my sister and she is a woman. She is good at administration and she used to run AIS and run a firm with Bt200 billion worth of assets. But running a firm is different from running a government.

I believe when she becomes the prime minister, she will definitely be destroyed by the Democrat. So, I am worried whether she will be able to tolerate it. … I am confident she can be a very capable prime minister because she has more administration experience more than Abhisit [Vejjajiva, the Democrat leader].

… I am now reviewing as to whether she should become Thailand's first woman prime minister or not.

Where does it say anything about an outside power in relation to him choosing her for PM?

"The peddler now speaks

to the countess who's pretending to care for him Sayin', "Name me someone that's not a parasite and I'll go out and say a prayer for him"

But like Jatuporn always says"Ya can't look at much, can ya man?"As she, herself, prepares for him And Thaksin, he still has not showed We see this empty cage now corrode Where her cape of the stage once had flowed The fiddler, he now steps to the road He writes ev'rything's been returned which was owed On the back of the fish truck that loads While my conscience explodes

The harmonicas play the skeleton keys and the rain

And these visions of Yingluck are now all that remain"

It will depend on the attitude of the one who interferes the system. Will he keep on interfering in the system or will he realise that the country has suffered enough damages from the interference and stop it and allow the system to go on its own course?

Talking about himself or what?

Exactly.

"destroyed by ... (the Thaksin system)?

I love the way they photoshop their faces until the candidates look like ghouls

Common out here! Got a whole department in my school with their faces pictured on their board outside their office; ok, they're none of them so young anymore, but now they're nothing less than members of the Book of the Dead!!!closedeyes.gifclosedeyes.gifvampire.gif

family row in the Shinawatra clan? Afraid the little sister would vanish with too much of the assets still to be stolen?

What a farce... disgusting Shinawatra's...

That makes sense. OK, keep the wolves away from your sister and let them attack somebody else in your party. At the same time, your sister will continue to become more popular so that when the time comes, you can install your sister as PM and she would have been saved from the slander. Good luck to you Thaksin. I have read some articles about education in Thailand and the current management seems to be lost.

Well ok let's not scarify my sister, let scarify someoneelse in case democrats attack. This is what is called family value

'I used to talk to taxi drivers and motorcyclists. They asked me whether I think Thailand has democracy. I told them that if democracy is like a man wearing necktie and suit, Thailand is also wearing suit but it is putting on sandals, not proper shoes. If foreigners look at Thailand from the bird-eye view, they will think that we have democracy but when they look at our feet, they know that it is not so. They kept on asking me what I would say if the Pheu Thai wins 250 MPs but cannot form a government. I replied that it would be a democracy without even trousers. The country will wear jacket and necktie but there will be no trousers. It will be like that we stand naked in front of foreigners. It'll be fine if we want to stand naked in front of the world.'

Lost it.. totally lost it.. believing if he talks in riddles then he must be seen as some sort of all-seeing, all-knowing sage... well..NOT!!! This guy would have his whole (red face-painted) country stand naked in front of the world whilst telling them that they were wearing the finest togs, which he personally had hand-knitted for them!!! Worse still.. they'd believe it, slap each other's bare backs and go block another major thoroughfare!!!!!!! (Scary s**** but there ain't no way past those masses with a weak - 'Follow me'-'Ok..' - human psyche, despite their all too evident fallabilities.. they got the numbers ya see!!!)wai.gif

Hardly news is it?

THis government has made their bed and will at least for a while - have to lie in it.They came to power by way of a coup. Far from attempting reconciliation or establishing democratic institutions to ensure a fair equitable election they have concentrated on suppressing all opposition.Media, people , laws have all been under attack by this administration and at the end of the day the opposition will still poll the greatest number.

The result is two bitterly opposed factions who will shove aside any notion of true democracy just to ensure their own ascendancy.

So after the election what happens?

Ludicrous horse trading and more skullduggery which will probably end up ith the current admin forming some creaky coalition with some unprincipled "allies" - or the "other lot" get in and after a respectable period the army steps in to "re-establish order" - whatever that may be.

PS - I notice that K.Abhisit's party are proud of the fact that they have chosen their candidates not on the basis of "sponsor" but on having at least 10 years political experience....in other words "same ol', same ol'.........

So what? Everybody in Thailand knows it's a puppet election. Yingluck, or whoever will be Puea Thai's next PM, is Thaksin's puppet. Just like Abhisit is someone's puppet. Anyone that can't see that is just plain dumb, excuse my English.

Democrats have been falling for Thaksin's tactics for a while now, and it seems that many foreigners are falling for them too. Sadly not many foreigners here know enough about politics. They think they do, but they don't. Just because Thaksin says that his sister may not become PM, doesn't mean that his sister won't become PM.

If you're swimming in a shark tank, it's a wise idea to throw blood into the other end of the pool, rather than where you're swimming, just to keep the sharks off your back until you're out of the pool. Sharks may just be dumb enough to believe it. And apparently even some of the people just watching the sharks from outside the tank.

So Thaksin is undecided if Yingluck should become PM if PTP wins. News? That to be number 1 on the party list doesn't mean to be the candidate for the future PM - we heard it before from Thaksin/PTP.

Thaksin as chief strategist and with the opinion of an expert in politics he argues that Yingluck with her professional experience is even more and better qualified than Abhisit.

But as a brother who cares about his sister and as man who wants protect women Thaksin is worried about how she would survive in the cold, hard and brutal world of politics.

Its not a clear NO.

What does it mean?

  • a) Re-thinking the strategy to offer a female PM to the electorate. She scored bad in polls. As it was pointed it out previously, the conservative male dominated Thai society is maybe not ready for a female PM.
b ) Myth making: A woman with more and better experience than Abhisit. Democrats will tell untrue stories to destroy the government leader (no one knows that better than Thaksin) A caring brother who his worried about his vulnerable sister.
    c) the mysterious outsider is top ace. be prepared for the big surprise.
d)Thaksin, Thaksin, Thaksin!!! Does PTP actually need a PM candidate with a own personality?

What will be the next step?

  • a) Poor Yingluck needs to be protected from evil forces that wants destroy her.(= she scored bad in polls). Someone else will be the choice for the PM.
b ) We have a heroine. A woman with more and better experience than Abhisit. A woman courageous and not afraid of enemies trying everything to destroy her. A heroine, brave and confident, Thailand's first woman prime minister.
    c) the mysterious outsider is probably a MacGuffin. No surprise, but even better - suspense. Thaksin knows very well how to play with the Thai media and keep this audience entertained and be in the centre of attention. Although be nothing else than just undecided he establishes an image of the decision maker, busy, active, caring. Thaksin makes news every day, Antithaksin stories told again and again to counter this become boring. It is a PR strategy that could work with the uncommitted voter and apolitical people.
    d) Thaksin. He will decide who becomes the PTP. No question. Those who thought few moth ago that the interference by the man in exile are improper are now getting more and more use to it and will think of it as normal. Will not work for Thaksin/PTP/red shirt hater of course.

A while ago you said

"Most Thai women are likely to vote for her, just to show their husbands that women have equal rights and can be just as successful as men, while Thai men are likely to vote for her because she's pretty."

I guess now Thai women are really upset with their heroine described as 'puppet', 'clone' and a man dismissing her as possible PM even if he's her brother. So now Thai men will vote for PTP because of showing women their place. What will the women vote? K. Purachai?

...

But now it is believed that even the Pheu Thai wins, it will not be allowed to set up a government.

I used to talk to taxi drivers and motorcyclists. They asked me whether I think Thailand has democracy. Exactly where is Thaksin currently speaking with Thai taxi drivers and motorcyclists this days? Because he's telling this as if even now he gets asked this question by the same people.

I'm calling a complete fabrication on this little anecdote.

She cried at a public appearance again. Maybe that's why she's not Thaksin's first choice.

Still, I suspect it may just be a bit of the old things aren't always the way they seem in Asia and some good old fashioned tactical "misdirection".

Thaksin can say whatever he wants to offset attacks on his little sister, change plans at the last minute just before the election, or wait until the election is won to install her as PM to spare all the PAD and Democrat personal attacks on her.

The PAD and Democrats are going down and they know it.....the only question is if the traitors (coup leaders) in the military are as worried about their crimes that were commuted as much as they/the anti-reds claim they are really just afraid of Thaksin and his side getting their crimes commuted.

Whatever the justification, isn't it funny how everyone has "forgotten" a coup is an act of TREASON !!!!

We shoot people like that in the States. The one in jail now may get life but it's still life.

And look what their little coup did --- crippled the Thai economy, mass chaos, and the masses have definitely suffered. If Thaksin was corrupt, so be it, everyone was doing better. Any naive enough to think the Democrats or PAD are anything but just as corrupt but worst for the nation in since the coup is seriously naive.

d)Thaksin, Thaksin, Thaksin!!! Does PTP actually need a PM candidate with a own personality?

Thaksin will decide who is Prime Minister. Not his party, not the people of Thailand. The guy's sheer maniacal egotism and outrageous selfishness just makes me SICK.

A society without rule of law must resort to other means. You may not like the coup, but the fact is the soldiers were being given flowers on the street afterwards. Does that tell you something?

Rumour has it k. Thaksin hasn't been in the country since about June/July 2008. The question 'what if PTP get's 250MP' may reflect the December 2007 elections, but after those PPP formed a government with the late k. Samak as PM.

Mmmh. I can only assume that many taxidrivers and motorcyclists went on those 'red-shirt' tours to Dubai. Those we saw some news about a while ago :-)

Actually a coup in Thailand doesn't have to be treasonous.

There is an interesting article written in the AsiaTimes Online dated October 19th 2006 that is well worth a read entitled "why this military coup is different" ... :)

PM me for the link if you can't find it with the title.
