UN aid chief urges end to violence in the occupied Palestinian territory

2011-05-25 03:39:00 GMT+7 (ICT)

UNITED NATIONS (BNO NEWS) -- The United Nations humanitarian chief on Tuesday urged an end to the indiscriminate violence in the occupied Palestinian territory.

Speaking to reporters after a four-day visit to the region, Valerie Amos, Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs, said Israel must suspend the forced eviction and displacement of civilians from their homes in the occupied Palestinian territory. She described the policy as illegal under international law and said Palestinians had the right to move freely throughout the West Bank, including East Jerusalem and the Gaza Strip to access services and resources.

"Palestinians are utterly frustrated by the impact of Israeli policies on their lives," she said. "Their homes are regularly demolished. They cannot develop their communities."

The Under-Secretary-General stressed that Israelis also had the right to live without fear of attack. She added that most Palestinians and Israelis wanted the same goal – "to live normal lives in peace, security and dignity."

"I met mothers at an indoor children's playground, where their children have just a few seconds to reach bunkers during shelling," she said after visiting an Israeli community in the town of Sderot, which has faced constant rocket attacks from Gaza.

Amos said Palestinians, who had been evicted from their homes in East Jerusalem to make way for Israeli settlements, face daily violence and threats from settlers. She added that the attacks on Palestinians are rarely prosecuted.

"face daily violence and threats from settlers. She added that the attacks on Palestinians are rarely prosecuted." Well thats an interesting statement, considering nothing is reported even by the Arab propaganda machine or Palestinian media. Must be "classified" information ONLY available to aid chief :whistling:

"Palestinians had the right to move freely throughout the West Bank, including East Jerusalem" Palestinians do move freely in the West Bank, because West Bank is under PA authority control. Palestinians do not have the right under any law, including Martian law to cross the Israeli borders freely

East Jerusalem is still under Israeli territory, so why should they be allowed to move freely in Israel when they do not even recognize Israel?

"Gaza Strip to access services and resources" to fire some rockets? who will police that the UN aid chief?

"The Under-Secretary-General stressed that Israelis also had the right to live without fear of attack. " That is why all the measures are in place, because Israel is under constant attacks

"Palestinians are utterly frustrated by the impact of Israeli policies on their lives,", Well all they have to do is recognize Israel and stop the attacks. it did not concern the aid chief the impact of Palestinian policies on the lives of Israeli's?
