Thai police hunt 75 'hitmen' ahead of election

BANGKOK, May 26, 2011 (AFP) - Thailand's national police chief on Thursday ordered a nationwide manhunt for 75 suspected professional killers in an attempt to boost security ahead of a July national election.

"The first group of 29 have repeatedly committed serious crimes and carry a bounty of 100,000 baht (3,300 dollars)," Police General Wichean Potephosree told reporters.

"A second group of 46 hired gunmen carry a 50,000 baht reward," he added.

Wichean also warned anybody found destroying election posters would face criminal charges.

"Perpetrators could be punished with three months in jail, a 6,000 baht fine or both," he said.

The July 3 vote is shaping up to be a close fight pitting Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva's establishment-backed Democrats against allies of fugitive former premier Thaksin Shinawatra, who was ousted in a 2006 coup.

Thaksin's youngest sister, Yingluck Shinawatra, is the main opposition Puea Thai party's candidate for premier.

Police said they would focus their pre-election security operation on seizing firearms and arresting criminals in highly competitive constituencies in 10 provinces.

An opposition politician was shot and wounded earlier this month while driving his car in an attack he believes was politically motivated.

so the police are aware of 75 hitmen ... in most countries , hitmen ARE NOT KNOWN to the police as they are hitmen and keep themselves to themselves

so they know 29 of them , but have already released them !!!!!! , amazing thailand

i will sleep well at night knowing that they will jail people for pulling down a poster, with the same people also trying to find hitman at the same time.... suppose it will be ..who will pay the most tea money

So after the election what happens? They know the names and are just now starting to look for the murderers? Another Holey Crap moment.huh.gif

Methinks they should pay the 50,000 Baht hit men 50,000 Baht to kill the 100,000 Baht hit men ... Problem halved!

Posts 2 and 3 say everything that needs to be said.

Will this unleash another period of nonjudicial killings? 100K in his wallet would mightily please Constable Somjai. He could then afford to buy a Sergeant Majors rank.

Is this list of wanted/known "hit men" added to the earlier list of 100+? Hell they need to run and win election on some parties shirt tail. who would vote against them? 175 to 200 hit men MP's can descend on Bangkok.

Probably solve a lot of the countries problems in short order.

Amazing Thailand. I guess it just donned on them to start looking for these "known hitmen". If these are the ones that are "known", I wonder how many are professional enough to remain "unknown". TIT

I infact asked the question over a week ago, what were the dear BIB doing about, going after these hitmen.

I think maybe they are going to turn it into a game and call it Cluedo?
