PESHAWAR (BNO NEWS) -- At least seven people were killed and 10 others were injured on Sunday in a blast in northwest Pakistan, the country's The Nation reported.

According to reports, explosives planted in a pick up van in Matni, an area located in the outskirts of Peshawar, went off, killing 7 people including 2 children and a woman. According to Bomb Disposal Scrod, about 5 kilogram explosive was used in the explosion.

Police rushed to the site and arrested the driver of the vehicle.

President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani and Interior Minister Rehman Malik condemn the blast. The President said in his message that terrorists were enemy of humanity and their actions would not shake courage of the government. The prime minister reiterated that the fight against terrorism would continue, while Interior Minister Malik ordered an investigation into the incident.

Last week, at least eight people were killed when a bomb exploded at a market in northwest Pakistan. In December 2010, at least 45 people were killed and dozens more were injured when a female suicide bomber attacked a UN World Food Program distribution center in Khar, not far from the scene of the explosion.
