Should She Get A New Passport ?

Featured Replies

Hi guys

My girlfriend's passport finishes on the the 5th of February, 2012, she is planning on applying for a holiday Visa in August this year. If granted she would be leaving around the end of August, beginning of September when she finishes college. if she is not in the UK befor September 5 her six month visa would finish after her passport has expired.

My question is ,can she apply for a new passport now, even though all her old passport currently has eight months left on it ?

Does she have to go to Bangkok or can it all be done by post , she's currently in Surin .?

Thanks for any help you can offer

I don't see any reason why she can't. My wife recently renewed her passport when she changed to my surname. She also lives outside of Bangkok. Applied for hers in Phuket and it took a week and cost about 1000baht

Not sure if it's still the case, but people entering the U.K needed to have a passport that was at least 6 months old, same for us when we come here, so getting a new passport may not be a good idea.

New passport costs 1,000 baht and will be send to her for an aditional 35 baht.

There are several passport offices one can apply for a new passport: http://www.mfa.go.th/web/2633.php

In the middle screen, click on consular affairs, than look for the passport offices in the list that appears.

I don't believe there's any requirement for a passport to be at least six months old, however many countries (including Thailand) require that persons entering under visa exemption provisions have a passport that is valid for at least an additional six months from their date of entry.

KamnanT is correct, there is no such requirement for six months remaining on a passport, though a passport holder would need to leave the UK before the passport expired.

I'm assuming it's not your girlfriends intention to stay in the UK for a full six months?
