Crackdown On Internet

Well the crackdown my might the gogo bars busier I suppose.

Keep the sex in Thailand. Maybe they are losing too much money in the copied "Sexy movie" industry and need to bolster the sales in that area.

He never ceases to amaze me.

Wants to censor the people. That's it!!

Sues when someone says something. To the tune of 500million baht. I think his lawyer got his degree in the States.

This last year has been full of surprises and hubs. Seems this country is really starting to be polarised to an extreme.

Next it will be a crackdown(hub) of real label clothing because it competes with their own. Seeing other developing countries are now producing cheaper alternatives and will continue to do so in a growing fashion.

I'm sorry but he really seems to be hel_l bent on making this country less attractive for the foreign investment. From big business to the tourist.

My new 2baht coins worth

I stand corrected.... do't mean to imply that i'm a rapist, but IF i were, then those titalating half dressed sexy girls on te front covers of all the mags in full public view would be a good place to censor if that's what your intet is. the problem with cesorship is always were do you start it and stop it??

and to make it perfectly clear..... i'm not a rapist, i've never raped a woman. in fact, i've been the victim of a rape. and i don't condone it.

i was just tryig to make an example of the stupidity of implying that rape is caused by 'internet images' and not ackowledging that inticing images are everywere as well as the 'real thing', here in LOS.

Ok Jaideeguy, sorry to hear about your personal stuff, I really appreciate that. But the whole thing about having scantily clad women in magazines is worldwide and it it is horrible... but who will stop it ??????????????????????????????????????????????????? This is essentially a male thing. So come on you guys.......... if there were lots of men in equally as sexy poses... how would you feel?

I applaud the PM's decision to do something.  Most of you disagree with everything the PM does, or think.  You're a guest and, unlike most of the Thais, you can leave whenever you feel like it.  Apparantly a large portion of the TV crowd utilizes the pornographic sites for pleasure, precisely the type of person the PM is addressing.

After careful consideration, judging from your observations above, you strike me as a right w@nk3r.

I don’t hear too much about rape in Thailand seeing is there is so much sex available. It seems a bit on the moot side to me.

Perhaps you can't speak Thai or have no real interactions with Thai people. I am amazed by the amount of rape depicted on public television during prime time hours in Thailand. Rape is a serious problem in Thailand. Worse than any country that I have been to. Rape is not taken seriously by the police so young woman are considered to be at fault. This is not just bar girls. THis is school girls, daughters, nieces, etc. The availability of sex does not decrease rape. It increases it. Thailand needs to seriously address this issue. You don't hear about it because Thai people don't consider rape on the same level as other crimes. Watch a TV series some night and count the number of attempted and committed rapes.

C'mon guys, It's their country. They are allowed to govern it as they wish. Sometimes I think we (the collective we who do not hold Thai passports) forget we are guests here in Thailand. If things of this nature irritate you too much, perhaps it's time to return to your home countries.

Plus, if you really need the porn, take a trip to Panthip or Silom Road. Plenty is available there...  :o

j.

So, following this logic... why countries would help each other. Let the poor be poor and the rich keep rich. It’s their countries so let them solve their problems alone without foreign intervention…

Maybe they could do a crackdown on prostitution all around Thailand, but that would affect the tourists based income…

these are the kind of tourists Thailand do not need anyway. If you are coming over for sex only than you shouldn't come

yea,so much rape....... forced sex, identured, or just simple renting [or selling]

out their daughters, wive. thai's have so little respect for their women and, it's apallng to watch their soaps, with violence, rapes, murder, infidelity. those are the role models of normal thai society??

When you were raped was someone filming it puting it on the net and making big bucks off it? or trading it with someother fruitcake who was doing the same?

Well, I guess I will only get the Bangkok Post now on the internet! With the love affair between The Nation and Toxin, it is probably one of the first to be blocked!  :o

You must be kidding me. You're seriously deluded if you think The Nation is in the pocket of the government. The opposite is the case. It's the Post that's at threat, not The Ntion. In fact The Nation is the only English language newspaper that has the guts to really tell it like it is, especially after the Post sacked the guy who wrote their "Inside Politics" column. In The Nation, read the columns of Suthichai Yoon, Thepchai Yong and Sopon Onkgara, among others. And their frequent front page attacks on the govt. Sorry, my friend, but you're way out in left field.

Snakefarm, you're spot on with this. The Bangkok Post and the Pattaya Mail are the most impotent of all newspapers in Thailand. Both newspapers are so politically and internally censored that I wouldn't even use them as make-shift toilet paper.

What happened to the initiative to have every Thai citizen IT competent? 7-11 stores were selling cheap computers and the Thai government were distributing computers to villages "up-country" so as everyone had access to the Internet.

Whilst we are on about "crackdowns", a Pattaya newpaper....(no, not the 'Sit and Smile' variety!) has reported that the city hall has been successful in it's crackdown on prostitution and wandering elephants in Pattaya. Apparently, there are no more prostitues or pachyderms in Pattaya!!! :o

you're all ning nongs

this is misdirection

it is about control of the internet and freedom of speech

you seem to be running off like chickens without heads as soon as a debatable subject comes up

its not about rape of images of sexual nature

its about controlling ALL content

get it right then from this perspective look at what it will be like ni a few years time

I am all for freedom of speech but when child porn or rape is so pervasive maybe a little control is needed! Oh and no offence ment in my earlier post.

On the subject of rape, the Bangkok Post recently ran a feature on child rape where it was clearly stated that most child rapes take place after the male rapist has watched pornograhic material. Therefore there is a clear connection between the viewing of pornographic material and rape.

Back to the crackdown - isn't this another case of making easy headline news by targeting the internet rather than tackling the more immediate threat to public decency from the illegal display and sale of 100's of hardcore pornographic dvd/vcd discs available in local markets across the land? These on sale dvd/vcds have with the most graphic covers showing all sorts of sexual acts, are visible to passer-bys of all ages, and that includes young children. Surely the ready availability of this kind of material is more likely to be causing the widespread moral corruption the government is concerned about than the relatively low number of thais that have private access to the internet. Too much to expect the local police to pull themselves away from harrassing passing motorcyclists than stopping the sale of illegal pornographic material just meters away, or for the government to ask police officers to enforce the law...

sex is banned while shooting people or hacking them up in movies is fine. Not even XXX. pornography whether you like it or not is the frontline of free speech. I thought there were not than a billion sites on the Web.

Reading pornography leads to the reading of more pornography - Gore Vidal

I don't 'read' pornography, just look at the pictures. :o

It seems to be like this already... so many POLICY DENIED when you surf in Thailand.

But it seems that M. PM doesn't know that any website will be forever available with a good proxy!

Hope that they wont block websites the chinese way... (block all, and let some works!)

Yes this has already been ongoing for a while now. Don't tell him about the proxy servers or they'll be blocking free proxy sites next.

Anyway... nothing like a good crackdown! Back to the football!

Well I can already not access sites turned up by google for free proxy sites.

Can anyone tell me, or point me in the right direction for getting a free proxy site happening?

Cheers
