July 18, 201114 yr I'm finding it difficult to understand a lot of the translations from Google Translate, I can understand the words in a lot of cases but not meaning as such. Does anyone know of a better more literal translation service on line??.......
July 18, 201114 yr http://www.thai-language.com/translate/ is pretty good. Breaks it down word by word, with multiple meanings. http://www.thai2english.com/online/ is pretty good as well.
July 19, 201114 yr Buy Thai2English, it's a bit expensive but well worth it. It's a great dictionary and translator, it also has some very useful notes and lessons. I probably use it about 20 times everyday just when I am browsing the net or need to translate something in Facebook etc. It has greatly assisted my study in Thai too.
July 19, 201114 yr Author Hi, thanks for the info. I'm finding wild differences in the interpretations between the machine translations. I think I'll just need to study harder
July 25, 201114 yr I have found this link very helpful. It has many different languages . Thommo. http://www.oddcast.com/home/demos/tts/tts_tran_example.php
August 6, 201114 yr I remember seeing a code you can dial on one of my new sim cards a few months ago for a live translator. Anyone happen to know which company it is? I thought the first sim card I got was with Happy..? I now have true and AIS.
November 24, 201114 yr http://www.thai-lang....com/translate/ is pretty good. Breaks it down word by word, with multiple meanings. http://www.thai2english.com/online/ is pretty good as well. This is good for thai to english. But is there an english to thai equivalent???? I really like this girl who has a speech impairment, so talking on the phone is impossible I thought i could figure out a way, but it is feeling impossible now and this really sucks i can understand her, but she has no idea what i am writing to even try to make plans to meet somewhere feels next to impossible

I tried the simplest of sentences... 'where are you?' .... what is your name? ..... and it couldn't even do that. I know how to say these things and it wasn't even close.
November 24, 201114 yr Just a quick note... Google either ought to improve their translator or just not have it. It is absolute rubbish! thai2english.... quite good but only a one way street.

Thai grammar is a bit different from English though so the word order isn't always the same, but you should still be able to get some message across if you keep it simple. Also it gives you a lot of options of which word to choose, so once you've got your Thai message worked out, you'd probably want to run it back through the translator- Thai to English- just to check. Ha. Never easy. Or you could try ThaiSmile- it's got a whole series of stock phrases for situations. http://www.thaismile...aiLanguage.html (it is a website for Japanese but they have a good and extensive English section). For example under Daily Life 2, you have phrases like- Would you like to go out together- ไป เที่ยว กัน ไหม ครับ Do you want to go see a movie? - คุณ อยาก จะ ไป ดู หนัง ไหม ครับ If you do use it, make sure you end the sentence with the ครับ rather than the option they give of ค่ะ as one is a polite end term for men, but the second is for women. Or you could use this- http://thailandmusin...i-love-phrases/ which has a very long list of dating questions and compliments etc - can i see you tomorrow, are you free tonight, do you want to go eat with me, do you want to go see a movie and, um... can i meet your parents. Just make sure you only copy the bit before the slash symbol - / - as the bit afterwards is the translation of what the answer might be- so you'd be asking and answering the question yourself.
