Anyone Know Where To Buy Magnesium Chloride In Bangkok, Or Thailand?

Hi,

Someone asked this question in 2009 and didn't get a reply.

There is a guy in Bangkok (not on this forum) that says that he buys it here, but I think he wants to keep it a secret, as he mixes in down and sells it.

They use it for industrial purposes, but it is great at relieving pain. Mixed with water it is called Magnesium Oil, because it has an oily feel to it.

Mostly it is sold in small quantities, but I've found out that soaking in it for a long time can really do wonders - so I need Food Grade in bulk - many kilos.

Thank you,

I think Magnesium Chloride is what they use to coagulate soy milk into Tofu..

Maybe just check food supply places.

Here in Chiang Mai I would first check Yok which is a specialty food, appliance and baking supply place.

Definitely worth checking out. A friend recently called and said he found Magnesium Chloride in bulk that they were using for soaking, at the really cheap price, I'm pretty sure it's not 'food grade', but hey! What the heck, if it's being used successfully. I'll try to find out the difference from a contact I made in China who would know. In the future, I'll definitely bookmark this, and talk to Yok.

Thanks,

Hi,

I found 2 different grades of MgCl2 available from the same source. One, Industrial grade, is probably produced locally, or in China, and is less than ฿ 616 for a 25 kg sack. The other is "lab grade", comes in 500 mg plastic jars, and, I am sorry, I forgot the price, it's significantly higher somewhere around ฿ 500 each.

Lab grade is produced in Aus. or NZ, and has warnings that say, "Not for internal consumption". I'm using it to make Magnesium Oil, which I spray on my body, and leave for about 1/2 - 1 hour before showering. You hear a lot on the internet about highly expensive Magnesium Oil from Zechstein and Ancient Minerals, and so on - Boutique Magnesium. But I have also read blogs where people were using the lowest industrial quality for soaking in, and no one was complaining about the results. The friend who told me about Union Chemical, said their industrial grade was the grade spas were using for soaking their customers.

So I decided to buy the 25 Kg sack for soaking, and several 1/2 Kg jars for making into Magnesium Oil. I'm not using either of these internally, but, my guess is that the 'lab quality' import would be OK. Too much Magnesium, taken internally, gives you diarrhea, and it's poorly assimilated.

It can be purchased at:

Union Chemical 1986 Co., LTD.

209 - 219 Tanao Road,

Bovorniwate, Pranakorn,

Bangkok, 10200

Tel. 02-224-1822-4 & 224-1803-4

Fax. 02-224-6501

Hope this helps!

Hi,

I wanted to update this post. I got the chemical assays from both batches of Magnesium Chloride. I'm going to use the cheap one exclusively. The other one is MUCH more expensive. Over 700฿ for ½ Kilo as opposed to 616฿ for 25 kilos.

The pricier one contains <.0005% lead, and <.0005% arsenic, probably due to the fact that it's made by a chemical company in N.Z. or Aus. that deals with these substances, and it's probably not flushed out of their machines fastidiously, but I'm not sure, in the final analysis what the reason for it is. It also contains less H₂O than the cheaper brand, which is just over 50% H₂O (due to the fact that MgCl2 is a magnet for water.

The other product comes from Israel, and the percentages are within the range of what you'd find from old Dead Sea deposits. Whereas the one from down under has a host of chemical compounds - most of them harmless, or even beneficial, besides the aforementioned baddies, the Israeli product only mentions 4.

46.89% MgCl2

1.83% CaCl2

0.59% NaCl

0.31% KCl

The rest (50.38%) is "Water from crystallization"

Visiting other websites that sell Dead Sea MgCl2, the numbers are similar. So, that, the point of origin, and the price, lead me to conclude it's probably Dead Sea MgCl2 mined from deposits left behind from the shrinking of the Dead Sea. If there are any other chemicals in it, it doesn't say.

I'm no chemist, but I guess this would be half as strong as the other product, but if you made a saturated solution of it, Well... I guess it wouldn't make a difference.

If you're wondering about what value this has for you; Well, almost all of us are highly deficient in magnesium, and that's not good news. Taking a one or two month committment to spray it on your bod, or soak in it everyday can do wonders for getting your mineral content in balance. Claims of helping with diabetes, pain, arthritis, heart problems, and even cancer are rife among the purveyors of Magnesium Oil. I'm naturally slow to change, but I see a few things already. My skin is softer, and a cancer-like mole looks like it's drying up. I feel more relaxed.

I got a friend on it and he immediately developed a rash - so start slowly. If this happens to you, don't give up. Apparently it's just reacting with toxins in the skin. Avoid the eyes, and it will sting if you get it in a cut, but, if that happens, especially if it's in an area where you have a long-tern problem, you might want to put up with the stinging as it will act as an astringent, and, eventually the sting will subside after a week or so, and that area will show signs of improvement. Be careful around your privates, in General :). I've used it on my scalp, and these sore areas are disappearing. Supposedly you can make your teeth and gums better - but you have to take some time - 10 or 20 minutes daily. It tastes bad, too!

If you spray it on your skin, it's nice to have someone massage it into you. It will start out feeling oily (but there's no oil in it), then will become sticky, like a sugary beverage is on your skin. Be careful if you apply it in the shower as it will make the floor ultra-slippery. You know it's not an oil as it washes off without soap.

Areas I've massaged seem to bring a lot of dirt and dead skin to the surface.

If you're not in BKK Union Chemicals will ship it to you. That will cost more than buying it. But "Such a deal!". You can afford to be wasteful with it. If you have a dusty road by your house, you can put some on that. It will draw water from the air and keep the dust down!

Finally, take some time and read about Magnesium Oil. There's a fairly thorough PDF called "Magnesium for Life". I downloaded it, but a recent search ended in 404's. If you PM me I can send it to you. Other than that search "magnesium oil, and "transdermal magnesium". There's a lot of people willing to share their thoughts - and methods of application - usually ending with an order form for a vastly more expensive product.

Hope this will help some of you,

Let me bump this old thread.

I finally tried this using the Lab grade 750 baht for 500 grams Magnesium Chloride and wow that is good way to get magnesium.

Any updates on where to get good supply for less than lab quality?

I think Tofu and Soy Milk producers need to buy this stuff in food grade quality.

I tried Yok baking supply but no luck as the employees don't seem to be that trained or knowledgeable.

Any recent sources in Chiang Mai or easily shipping within Thailand?

I don't think I want 25 kg. 5 kg maybe.

Any updates?

Thanks

Found lab quality at Union Chemical in Chiang Mai.. On Suthep road.

500 grams Lab quality for 312 baht. Not always in stock but worst case 2 week to order from BKK.

Lab quality has less moisture than lower grades so cannot compare gram to gram versus food grade etc.

Hi there.  How much lead and arsenic is relatively safe to consume?

"The pricier one contains <.0005% lead, and <.0005% arsenic".
