Hey Kids!

OK - I did all the right things, I searched, I questioned, I even called on the phone. I still have no idea which consulate is best for my Non-Imm B application.

I originally planned on a trip to Penang, but I read in the Forum that they are now being Draconian in their requirements.

Phonom Penh? According to Thai Visa reports, equally inhospitable.

I was all set to go to Vientienne but today I saw a new post about a teacher whose application was rejected and the consensus of 'old-timer' opinions was pretty much, "Everybody knows you don't go to Vientienne. Duh." :D

And don't give me that old chestnut "Search the forum". Have you searched the forum lately? You can end up with hundreds if not thousands of results and you get just as many negative as positive reports. They're often from months, if not years ago. I thought the whole point of a forum was up to date conversation - not chastisement of those who are not "in the know". :o

I am a big fan of Thai Visa, and I know that like most news sources there is a tendency to focus on the bad over the good. Not every Thai girlfriend has a sick buffalo, not every Business partner screws you over, and not every Consulate turns down every visa every time. So I am asking, pleading, for any recent positive reports on consulates in the region.

I have all the appropriate paperwork, a job offer that does not require a teaching diploma, and all the appropriate fees. I just don't want to waste any time or money travelling to a dead end.

(Is Phnom Penh really that impossible? I haven't been there yet and would love to see it soon.) :D

Thanks.

For the past couple of years now I've used Penang for double entry tourist visas, and never had a problem. The last time (July) I changed to a Non Imm B and nearly got caught up in the then new reg about needing a letter from the labour board, I always use an agent, little Indian guy who's been doing it for over 20 years, knows everyone and can sort out pracitally anything for you, he bunged someone 300bt and the problem disappeared.

Yes. I saw a client with another law firm, who went to Phnom Penh last week. He went with a WP 3 with his company doc's. He did not have the Vat cert #20 and was rejected for the non-B even though he was a start-up. Also they wanted a list of foreigners and Thai employees.( First time I ever saw a Thai Embassy asking for this info)

It is much more liberal in Singapore or Malaysia.

If you have a bunch of Thai stamps in your passport avoid Singapore.

Unless you are really a tourist, they are the worst in SE Asia!

I've had numerous freinds - and myself - told to go back to "your own country" if you want a visa over the years, because of "too many' Thai visas. :o

Anyone else know anything here? I need to get my Work Permit ASAP, and Penang has holidays this week. I will be getting my non-imm b before getting the WP, and there is a bit of time pressure otherwise to get it before the 2 weeks are up...

Thanks!

Including yours truly, too. (And don't chew gum.)

Penang is fine IF you have the WP3 certificate. If not you may fail.
