Interesting ,but a trifle difficult. So ,I will pose a few questions . To answer you will need to go to C.M. bus station. To make further enquiries, unless others have more up to date actual experiences. Is there a bus from C.M. to Khon Kaen? If so, easy to get a bus from K.K. to Muk.Simplest solution. No, Not on? Then bus from C.M. to Udon Thani. Maybe bus to Muk. Direct , from U.T.. If not ,travel down to K.K. and then bus to Muk, or bus from U.T. to Nakhon Sawan , then bus to Muk( used to be a little old ,derelict green bus 3rd class).. A somewhat lengthy solution is bus from C.M. to Buriram or Ubon Ratcha thani. Then bus to Muk..Is time of the essence? No? Then travel slowly ,enjoy the trip, take as long as it takes. Some ,such as I, might like to term it "An Adventure"But do NOT ask" Mr Toad" for help in planning your itinerary. I really do love planning trips ,such as this. Best of Luck, Bill

"Bus. About 120bt."

From CM to Mukdahan? I don't think that's even close.

Can you elaborate how you could get that price?

If it was me traveling, I'd go CM to KK to Muk.

About 10 hours on the CM to KK part of the trip. Not sure how long on the KK to Muk part, but it's about 400 KM, if I'm not mistaken.

Mix it up a bit so he doesn't get bored

Fine, if he has plenty of time. You are looking at 3 days to do it without too much stress. C,M,to BKK.-1 night. On a sleeper train. !day in Bkk. Next night sleeper to K.K... Then, next day bus to Muk.

I know theres an bus from Chiang Mai to Ubon Ratchathani (6x and different classes) on NCA Nakhonchai Air Co. Ltd. www.nca.co.th

(don't have the cost but you should check the www. site.

Once you reach Ubon, then you'll have to catch another aircon motor coach to Mukdahan (2 hour ride) fare is under 200bht.

I would suggest the vip bus from Chiang Mai to Pitsanulok ..another vip bus there will go all the way to Mukdahan ...not sure of the cost but the buses are good, the transfer in Korn Kaen is a little funny with two bus stations....good luck

It takes a long time to get to Muk ,this way, Too long. !!! Pray do tell ,what is a "motor coach"? C.M.to Ubon is an excellent bus service, but useless to get to Muk.,in a reasonable amount of time.

Did you, by any chance, look at the map? Your suggestion is probably a very enjoyable grand tour, but seems to cover considerably more miles than is needed.B)

What BING Maps says:

CM to MK: 895.5 km, 13 hr 57 min

CM to KKC: 682.7 km, 10 hr 25 min

KKC to MK: 241.6 km, 4 hr 11 min

So not too big a difference in distance.

BUT anyway a very long ride by bus!

BTW: Bing maps shows the route from CM to MK leading via Udon Thani.
