seriouseats
I just washed my car and noticed that my rims were unusualy dirty.. on the sponge it turned out black.. the inside of the rim seemed to have some sort of black oil on it.. It was quite easy to wash of though, just a quick wipe and its gone. What can it be? Car is new so i doubt its a problem with the brake? I had black drops on the ground under the car but that could be my cat having killed a frog or something, the drops were pasty once touched http://www.acuraworld.com/forums/f40/strange-drops-black-goo-garage-floor-beneath-front-end-90731/ seems to be like this but their advices is to do nothing Edited July 31, 2011 by seriouseats
transam
Alloy wheels ? Perhaps you have driven through something that is attacking the rough alloy finish on the inside. Alloy always shows black if oxidizing.
mafumo
I once drove over a road that was broken tar patched up , on the dirt they had sprayed molasses and that left a hell of a mess underneath the car , perhaps it was something like that . New car its unlikely to be brake fluid or a leaking hub seal. Was left with a dirty car sweet smelling but easy to clean so no dramas.
seriouseats
probably the broken tar thing then.. lots of badly fixed potholes lately and rain
T_Dog
When your disk brake pads wear, it is common for the dust to leave a black dusty coating on your rims. You probably noticed it was worse on the front rims. Just clean your rims and have your mechanic check the brake pad thickness occasionally. T_Dog
"A quick wipe and it's gone..." Most likely pad dust. I've had two new vehicles where that showed up quite quickly. 1000 km is more than enough mileage to cause it.
rizla
Oh, and don`t forget to leave 4 plastic water bottles half filled with water next to your wheels....to stop any dogs (if you have any ?) pissing on your pride and joy... piss WILL damage your alloys over time.. seriouseats
im not thai therefore i park my car inside my property. Not gonna block people and try to show my status, mainly because too much sun and birdpoop isnt good My old wheels were unwashable when my gate was broken.. i figure there was about 20 to 30 piss per day on them with the amount of dogs roaming around. Feels good to have it fixed

If a 1000km (600 miles) of brake dust was causing the OP's ''problem'' as stated, then we would see many more posts here.
Kwasaki
Do you have rear disc brakes ? Are the front disc brakes leaving the same film on the rims ?

katabeachbum
<deleted> happend? Try again I vote for pad dust in combo with new rotors not washed off with alcohol, thus thin layer of "oil" Take it out for high speed, hold the brakes and throttle for 5-10 seconds. Or if no one behind you make one or two full, hard, stops from 150kmh and it should burn off
seriouseats
well i just had an other quick break again at central.. 1 lane full of parked morons and 1 moron decided to exit his car in the middle lane to help people in the back of his car.. his open door extended to the last lane(fast lane) so idiots from left lane decided to turn in the right lane while i and other cars were coming at 100kmh should come off soon enough Edited August 1, 2011 by seriouseats

transam
turns out my tire were quite low on air.. put them all back to 32 with automatic machine.. could it have triggered that? Take a look at the outer edges of the front tyres, then look at the edges of the rear tyres, you might have scuffed the edges off. Didn't think it was the pads but........................ If me l would buy some cellulose thinners, take the wheels off and give the brake disks and inner wheels a good clean with the neat thinners. Wear some nitrile gloves (not rubber), look like rubber, to protect your pudsies. See what happens after that.

Most main stores carry it now but I saw 2 different brands at BigC Super formerly known as Carrefore..Kinda pricey but I think it's worth it.. Op I hedge to mention it as it doesn't quite sound like this based on your description it sounds more like oily brake dust but that should have disappeared by now.. It sounds now more like a slight hole in your outer CV boot splattering off some grease which is usually graphite based and looks like you're describing but it would likely be clumpier and not evenly spread. maybe you could take some pictures and post them? Or possibly a failed wheel bearing seal allowing some grease to leach out and coat the rim combined with brake dust.. True, I had overlooked both sides in tandem and both CV boots or bearing seals is highly unlikely at the same time so now I'm back to brake dust..
