lovelomsak
Nice post I will wish all the mothers out there a very special mothers day also. I really like mothers day in Thailand. I buy hundreds of beautiful imitation white flowers and give them to all the women in my town that I have contact wth over the time since I have lived here. At one school alone i give out close to 90. I see these ladies wearing them and I am so happy. I give them to the baker the waitress the shop owners ,etc. Any woman who I know. afarang
Oh Mother'sday is the queen's bday and father's day the king's ? And both are americas attempt at economic domination. Both were promoted to BOOST retail sales ,at a time when retail was slack. The origins were in septic tank land. Designed to promote people spending in the Department stores, not your normal retail shops,at the time. . Picked up by Dept, stores globally..Disgusting waste waste of money. For a total non-event. It is a giant economic con.

aneliane
Not sure the orphan comment was adressed to me ... Anyway I was just wondering about these Days beeing linked to living people, the personality cult, and the fact they would have to change date when a new king woudl arise. Oh and I doubt the american decided of the Queen's and King's date of birth.

No , I was not an orphan ,when born .But both my father and my uncle died ,serving "the Free World"I never saw my father, he was killed by the Japanese. on active duty. As a surgeon on the H,M.A.S. As for your low life comment, take a look in the mirror.

afarang
Mate , my father and my uncle paid what some call " The supreme sacrifice" to protect you, and give you a life and you have the audacity to call me a "low life"? You are a disgrace to the human race. How come you want to ignore the origins of mothers and fathers day? They are simply. put:: a commercial con . They did not exist ,when I was a child. It was only your Dept ,stores that discovered there was a quick buck to be made from promoting this ridiculous idea. and you were stupid enough to embrace it !!!! says a lot about your intelligence, does it not? Ok " Mate ". keep taking my comments out of it's context to feed your hunger for an argument. If mothers day didn't exist when you were a child than you must be of really old age. http://www.theholida...day/history.htm The history of Mother's Day is centuries old and the earliest Mother's Day celebrations can be traced back to the spring celebrations of ancient Greece in honor of Rhea, the Mother of the Gods. During the 1600's, the early Christians in England celebrated a day to honor Mary, the mother of Christ. By a religious order the holiday was later expanded in its scope to include all mothers, and named as the Mothering Sunday. Celebrated on the 4th Sunday of Lent (the 40 day period leading up to Easter), "Mothering Sunday" honored the mothers of England. Now talk again about intelligence. Oh, bloody hell. the christians try to strike again. It was not them ,that turned it into a commercial adventure,in the search of extra profit. Now ,tell me how did fathers day start ? At some point you are going to have to admit ,that americas dept, stores got in on the act sensing that there were huge profits to be made and they made them Edited August 12, 2011 by afarang
Bagwan
Mother's Day, Father's Day, Easter, passing an examination, commiseration of not feeling well, congratulations on your new baby, sorry you're leaving,Christmas, New Year, wedding anniversary, birthday - cards, cards cards. Not a visit, not a telephone call, not an e-mail even, no human contact at all. Just a coloured bit of cardboard with twee BS wording reaching the heights of hypocrisy. Microscopic sincerity? For years I've looked for a cards that said 'Pi55 Off' or 'I thought we'd never get rid of you'. At last they expressed a modicum of sincerity.
