Not quite at that stage yet, was he happy with the treatment?

Bangkok Hospital is pretty good. But you may need to be a bit forceful to convince them you have anything other than food poisoning. If you insist (politely) you should be able to get a thorough investigation, but you may have to push them a bit.

Any hospital can do this, but I have to say that people who think they have appendicitis usually do not have anything remotely of the sort...especially people whose symptoms are mild enough that they can wait till morning and walk on in to the hospital.

Perhaps if you described what you are feeling we could advise better.

mild radiating pain from upper right hip area, extending to right testicle and around to lower back. Tried a 10 day course of Amoxyclav, thinking kidney infection, no change, pain is slowly getting 'deeper' and more centralized.

You should go to a hospital and have a CT scan and full examination. It does sound like appendicitis to me. Perhaps it can be treated conservatively...perhaps not.

If you are having repeated events like this it might be best to have it removed anyway. Don't delay your trip to hospital now as the pain getting more centralised and tender indicates you need urgent treatment. If there is infection inside and the appendix bursts you could end up with peritonitis which is a much more serious problem.

No, does not sound at all like appendicitis, but could be many other things, including bladder or kidney stones, or a simple pulled muscle.

An abdominal ultrasound would rule in or out most serious causes. Make sure it is either whole abdomen or lower abdomen as they often do only upper abdomen as part of routine examine here (since in most Thai men they are focused on the liver). If the doc you consult isn't amenable to doing this just go into the health screening/check up area and request it, they'll do virtually any test on demand in those places. Get a urinalysis and complete blood count while you are at it.

Not to mention it should be a wee bit cheaper than a CT scan.

I've had two ultrasounds with packaged physicals, six years apart at two different hospitals, and they both did (only) lower abdomen.

I thought I had a pulled muscle. I had no idea what a bad appendix felt like. I thought it would cause vomiting and nausea. I finally got to the point that I couldn't straighten up. My wife took me to a clinic. The doctor there poked around a bit and told my wife to take me directly to the hospital. We got to the hospital at 3:30 PM. I was prepped and on the cutting table by 6:30 PM. The doctor told me that I was lucky. My symptoms were an ache on my lower abdomen that just got worse and worse. It actually felt like it was in the muscle, and not inside.

Well I went in to BCH, had urine tests and an ultrasound.... all clean, he gave me antacids and a muscle relaxant...... another $150 wasted.... ho hum, here we go again on the hospital merry-go-round.
