Hi all

I'm a New Zealand citizen married with a Thai woman. We got marriage registration under the Thai law. We gonna have a baby in the next month in the Thailand, as that is where we live now. We are planning on visiting my family in the New Zealand after we have a baby.

As far as I am aware if the baby is born in Thailand, it will be a Thai citizen But can the baby be a New Zealand citizen also because the father is New Zealand right?

- How and where do I apply for New Zealand citizenship for my baby Also need to know if he can get a NZ passport?

Thank a lot

You need to apply via the NZ embassy which is located at All Seasons Place on Wireless Rd in Bangkok. Exact instructions are on their website but proof of your NZ citizenship and the child's Thai birth certificate are needed. The embassy will send a copy of the Thai BC off to Wellington for translation as part of the process. Once the citizenship by descent is grantedn then you can apply for a NZ passport for your child.

Your child is not Thai because being born in thailand, it will be Thai because of the mother's Thai nationality, regardless where the child is born.

Congratulations with the child, hope all will go well with the delivery.
