How To Organize Camping On Ko Rok?

Featured Replies

My spouse and I are traveling to Ko Lanta in last two weeks of November.

After we spend some time on Ko Lanta, we would like to spend few days on Ko Rok.

It seems not many people stay on Ko rok overnight so to find any information about how to organize it is quite difficult.

Would you mind to advise me how do you arrange it? What accommodation options are on Ko Rok?

Would you know if there is a restaurant where we can purchase a meal during our stay?

Any advise on the transport from Ko Lanta to Ko Rok?

thank you

I did it years ago. At that time there were half a dozen tents that the rangers used to rent out. We took our own food, and hung it in bags from the trees at night to prevent the rats getting it.

Hi -

I am the king of Rork island. No seriously, I am. I have nearly a month racked up cumulatively on the island. Koh Tachai as well, longest stay not most cumulative days though.

Myself and my Thai girlfriend camp all through the Andaman from December - April. I will be taking her to Koh Rork her first time but we will go for Songkran in April. This is because all the other NPs will surely be packed out.

Both may still be catching rain if not be outright stormy this early. It is also possible that the NP is not open or at least ready to accept you (have everything cleaned up and restaurant opened).

Lanta is perhaps my least favorite island. It's ugly, expensive and the beaches silty.

Yeah, I hope it stays that way, bless it.

Camping for you will be B80 a night. I have yet to get out there w/ my gf so I do not know how much is cost for Thai's. That is if you have your own tent. It might be best for you to use the parks tents as they have already set them up and taken the best locations. This should run you about B500 a night for a big 4pax tent - you may have to pay the addl' park fees. Bungalows are no longer option, they let them get run down. Too bad - they were super VIP and best in the NP system.

I would recommend that you bring something for breakfast and lots of snacks. You can eat lunch and dinner at the restaurant. Cook stove is best for morning coffee as it will save you money and you can drink coffee when yo uget up - not when they feel like opening the restaurant.

Any number of operators can get you out there. Cost as I recall is 1100 R/T.

Bring snorkel and fins :-) It's not the best, but its still fun!

thank you very much for the replies.

Bangkokburning - did you bring your own tent or did you rent one from the park rangers?

Can you recommend a company that will give us a lift to Ko Rok and back, I am in contact with some but none of them travel to Ko Rok.

I take not only my own tent, but my own gear. I drag it all around the Andaman during open season. BUT...if you are only staying a few days, I think best just use one of their tents. Small is about 350 and big about 500. They should also have mats and up to you about the pillow (i make my own).

You should heed very seriously my warning about storms. I think you will be looking at some storms. This is where assuming you are handy - your own new tent may be a plus. When you get hit with a storm in the islands - ITS STORMING!

Operators may not even be running out to Rork before Nov 15 due to no pax- but many parks open Nov1. There is lots of bullshit brokers sure. you have to work directly with the operators. as in all such cases.

Be careful for the clouded begal monitors and the rats. It's a lovely island 6-8am and after 3pm. Do bring food, even if you are flush for cash. Even millionaires have to take issue with B30 for a tiny cup of Nescafe.

Send me a pm are you married to a Thai? Is your wife/you good with a simple GH or hotel prior to launching off to KR? I will fill out the info you requested. I just don't give secrets away publicly. Maybe there is a website upcoming if I get the motivation.

Again - I can't slag Ko Lanta hard enough but you will need at least one night coming and going. Better you do an add'l week on Kradan or Koh Ngai or if up for camping - Kradan, Adang.

- pm me and i will give you an operator and maybe a gh.

Ok so I have no pm so I presume its not important.

Sorry, I don't post my gh's and I dont post my island secrets.

Try my friend Tezza blog.

Good luck and enjoy - esp in Nov
