Royal Barge Procession to be postponed

BANGKOK, 14 October 2011 (NNT) – The government has planned to postpone the royal barge procession to next year, citing safety concerns.

According to Prime Minister Office Permanent Secretary Jaturong Panyadilok, PM Yingluck Shinawatra would submit a letter to His Majesty's Principal Private Secretary Office to ask for a royal permission to put off the upcoming royal barge procession to next year following Royal Thai Navy’s report that the condition of the Chao Phraya River would be unfavorable for the event. The royal religious ceremony at Wat Arun Rajwararam will take place on October 22 as scheduled.

On the auspicious occasion of His Majesty the King’s 7th cycle birthday anniversary, more celebrations will also be held during December 1-11 and will be hosted by the Interior Ministry.

Mr. Jaturong said that the event would not be extravagant as His Majesty the King prefers it to be simple. But he confirmed this eagerly-awaited event will certainly be impressive and dignified and would bring happiness to the Thai people after this difficult time.

I have only one respectful comment:

"Wiser heads prevail"

Long Live The King

We don't want the royal barge to be washed out to sea by the wake from the 1000 tugboats.

Probably a good idea, or it would end up resembling a Dragon Boat Race B)
