Hopefully a quick question, I've seem to remember reading in the past that applicants have handed in 2 packs of the application form & all supporting evidence etc ie the originals and a copy of the originals.

Is this really required or just good practice?

I can't seem to find any requirement to submit 2 packs in the UKBA website, if anything it states "All supporting documents must be originals, not copies"

I'm all for getting the embassy on my side & will include a checklist, in a clear logical format, of everything submitted, leaving them hopefully with no reason for a refusal and also hoping to make the process as efficient as possible for both sides.

Will post update on progress, hoping to submit all later this week....

Many thanks

My understanding is that copies of original documents are required, If you want the original documents returned to you.....

So it seems good practice to do so. How you present them is up to you. But, I would suggest to make it as easy as possible for the ECO and therefore hopefully make obtaining the Visa a smother process.

I submitted two folders, 1 marked "Originals to be returned" and one marked "Photocopies for retention of the UKBA"

With luck..... I will know next week how it went!

There is no requirement to hand in 2 packs but they do ask for copies of original documents. From the UKBA website:-

"For every document that you provide including a copy of your passport bio-data page (the page containing your photograph), you must include the original documents and a photocopy"

We were originally going to supply just one large folder with everything inside (the photocopies at the rear of each section). However, when it was put together it was just too big and untidy. I then separated all the originals and compiled them into the main folder, separated and indexed everything so that they were easy to find. Rather than putting the photocopies in another folder I just punched them and bound then together with a clamp and added a cover "Photocopies to be retained by embassy". I then strapped the copies to the back of the main folder with rubber bands .

In the end the embassy sent everything back to my wife including the copies but at least we gave them the option. We got the visa so it worked for us.

Good luck

Many thanks for the quick responses

I'll play safe and run of a copy of everything, 1 labelled "Original - to be returned" and the other "Copy to be retained by Embassy"

Once again many thanks
