Yea, last year's hit move "I Died of Prostate Cancer Because I Didn't Catch It In Time" won 3 Oscars!

:lol::cheesy:

You make a good point. There are many 'silent' killers too, that if caught in time can be stopped.

And I can't think of anyone better than Dr Morgan to have this checked by

The 'cure' for prostate cancer leaves many men impotent and incontinent.

Quite often the diagnosis is in error.

I think I would rather take my chances of dying, really it's not that big a deal.

I respect your choice and dying isn't that big a deal we all have to go, but the way you die might be a bigger deal than you think.

Personally, I am an advocate of end of life choices. I like to think I can get the best quality of health whilst I can, but in the event of having something terminal, that I know will have a grim ending, I have prepared in conjunction with my family, my wishes for a final exit before that point,

Does anyone apart from Americans actually get this done?

Why would it be only Americans who get physical exams?

Part of the American Insurance, medical, consumer scam.

I didn't realise other nationalities were being taken in, power of Hollywood I guess.

The American Medical Association recently recommended against annual PSA testing. How does that fit into your theme?

A friend of mine was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer recently and is currently going through some treatments. He could not find much information on the topic in Thailand when he was diagnosed and hence came up with this website to help others. Thaiprostate. In case you are looking for more information and how to get treated in Thailand.

Perhaps, but your claim of it being part of American idiocy don't stand up. First, most American insurance companies do not require annual physicals, and second, the AMA has recommended against annual PAP smear testing (as a screen for cervical cancer) for the general populaton of women and more recently against PSA testing (as a screen for prostrate cancer) for men. There might be plenty of legitimate reasons why you think that Americans are completely fvcked up, but annual physical exams are simply not one of them.

Can you please post your citation of this? I am HIGHLY dubious of your statement. There is a difference between "Don't get your prostate checked" and "The PSA testing standards, methods, etc. need to be changed."

Post your proof, and let's see.

I was wrong that it was the AMA, it was someone called U.S. Preventive Services Task Force. There have been a lot of stories in the news about it for the last week, here's one: http://news.yahoo.com/annual-cancer-screening-tests-urged-less-less-040419914.html

Either way, it's not fair to paint any of this are being some sort of American problem. In the US, and elsewhere, methods of cancer screening and cancer treatment are hotly debated. It might be fun to lambast Americans, but data on this topic is not being ignored in the US. And certainly no one in the US is forcing expats in Chiang Mai to have an annual physical.

That's a very dubious story if you ask me, the rationale for not having the test is that sooner or later a test will result in a false positive and that will lead to unecessary biopsies. Unless I'm seriously missing something here, surely a wasted biopsy is better than having undiagnosed cancer!

Dr. Morgan comes highly recommended by many TV posters as a caring individual who speaks good English. I'm just about to make an appointment with her myself. I last went to the Special Medical Services Center (Suthep Road) where the cost for the most comprehensive list of tests was about 5000 baht. Dr. Morgan I guess is about the same. Dr. Greg ,the American doctor is not at Sripat at the moment ,so essential communication of the results could be problematic. At my last reckoning RAM was about three times the cost.Dr. Morgan happily replies to email questions and would give you a quote.

I might add her English is perfect no problem with the language. I go to her and am very happy with her.

Years ago I had one at ram and they took a x ray of my broken foot. They wanted to fuse it. I had two specialist back home advise against it. about 6 months ago I went and saw a local specialist on the super highway he is semi retired and told me not to do fuse it. He even explained why.

I digress Dr Morgan is tops in my books.
