The video was released on Friday but a closer review of the footage on Saturday appears to show a person bending over and inserting a thin piece of wood inside Gaddafi's bottom. The video was released by the website Global Post, which obtained the footage from rebel fighters. VIDEO: Gaddafi was captured on Thursday morning by fighters supporting Libya's transitional government as he tried to flee his hometown Sirte. He was eventually shot dead, but it remains unclear whether he was executed by his captors or if he was killed during fighting between pro-Gaddafi and anti-Gaddafi forces. On Friday, Amnesty International urged the new Libyan authorities to ensure a full, independent and impartial investigation into how Gaddafi died. "If Colonel Gaddafi was killed after his capture, it would constitute a war crime and those responsible should be brought to justice," said Claudio Cordone, Senior Director at Amnesty International. Cordone added: "Investigating whether or not his death was a war crime might be unpopular. However, the NTC (National Transitional Council) must apply the same standards to all, affording justice even to those who categorically denied it to others." A spokesman for the United Nations human rights office also called for an investigation on Friday, describing images of Gaddafi's last moments as 'very disturbing'. Libyan authorities previously said Gaddafi, who ruled the African country from 1969 until earlier this year, died of a gunshot wound to the head. Libya has been engulfed in a civil war since an uprising against Muammar Gaddafi's regime began in mid-February, while pro-Gaddafi forces have been accused of violently cracking down on anti-government protesters. It led to UN Security Council Resolution 1973 which authorized member states to impose a no-fly zone over the North African country and to take 'all necessary measures' to protect civilians. Hello Claudio, let it be. Not to say any bad deed is justified, but the Colonel was responsible, directly and indirectly for tens of thousands of deaths and sufferings. He's gone. Most Libyans and relieved and joyful. Life goes on. Trying to make a big deal out of Gaddafi's last minutes is futile and, to quote the great bard, "Much Ado About Nothing." Everyone from Syria, to Iran to the Gulf States to Israel is paying attention. These events will serve to encourage a harsher crackdown on protestors in Iran and the Gulf States.Iin respect to Israel, it will fuel the fears of what would happen if any arab group invaded Israel. Similar events occurred in Tunisia and Egypt where mobs have run amuck. I anticipate a backlash and ratcheting up of crackdowns on dissent and protest in the region. For people that regularly yell out religious slogans and demand respect for their religious views, they seem to have discarded the positions on respect for the wounded, the dead and the need for a proper burial. How can they be respected and believed when they behave in such a primitive and deplorable manner? Ghaddaffi has been turned into a carnival sideshow now with people coming to gawk at the corpse. All that this abuse will do is further the ethnic and tribal animosities in Libya. Not overly bright, but yes, typical of the middle eastern mentality and one that highlights the double standard on display.. I recall the condemnation that followed the mistake made by US personnel when they cremated some Taliban remains. All the fingers were pointed. Who is next ? When you look at the arms/war/invasion business....You realize while they the backers of such events talk a good peace/democracy story it does not behoove them in any way. Instead they like to supply various groups with weapons & install puppet regimes so they later have more business retrieving said weaponry one bullet at a time & removing the puppet when it no longer responds to tugs at it's strings. Yeah I wondered about that too, he supposedly had only female body guards but it seems the ones there were all men.. Chris Lawrence Posted October 23, 2011 Share Posted October 23, 2011 Just been watching the video's on youtube. Some are very graphic and frightening, but that is what this was about. Best way to describe it is that Gaddafi's family just lost the Grand Final; trophy's are being taken. The only thing that won't come to light, was who rigged the game. It would appear that Gaddafi would have had enough time to have his life flash before him before dying. Wonder if he had regrets? His country has a lot of work to do now.
