Has / is anyone having eye problems of late? Symptoms of allergy or infection?

My eyes starting to itch and burn badly 2 days ago and i just thought it was the usual allergic reaction to a dust or pollen spore. I took an antihistamine today but the burning and dryness (and redness) is just as severe, that it has me suspecting it has been a water borne infection issue . Obviously now thinking it may well be down to contamination of the water supply. Just wondering how widespread this may be?

pink eye and dribble d*&% are rampant now. Eye infections will clear up on their own in around 2 weeks but you dont want to count on that. See a doctor , dont mess with your eye. :whistling:

eyes

Also definitely recommend Doc. but in the meantime antibiotic Poly-Oph eye drops could help with the inflammation and burning. What I use anyway and seems to works well.

As recommended many many times here in this forum...Head to Rutnin Eye Hospital on Asoke. Excellent eye care and reasonable prices

Yes I normally avoid the doc but do be careful.

A week or two ago I had a very swollen closed up eye and discovered it is ocular herpes. Apparently it hibernates in the trigeminal nerve.

If the scarring goes below the surface of the pupil this can easily lead to a serious reduction of vision.

Happily mine was surface scarring and it's already 80% healed and inflammation gone but still applying acyclovir gel to reduce the likelihood of it flaring up again.

Cheeryble

Epidemic Kerato Conjunctivitis, the common Red Eye infection is called in Thailand.

It is Highly Contagious, you should be careful of cross contamination to the other eye and to other people by shaking hands, sharing towels etc..

Many Thais actually believe you can catch it by looking at someone, so often they will cover their opposite eye when talking to you.

This can probably be treated by a pharmacist, Ive had it twice but I popped down the Hospital and it cost me about 1300 THB for the treatment.

PS: I don't think you need to see a specialist eye doctor.. A General Practitioner will know exactly what to prescribe. If he;s not sure then he will refer you.
