Ilr - Will Debt In Thailand Effect Application

Featured Replies

Hello,

I am new to this site, dont know how I missed it before its very good. I have a question if you can help please?

I am in the UK and just about to apply for ILR, I am married to English man and have been here 2 years on settlemt visa. My house in Thailand was taken back by the bank a few months ago, the agent renting my house did not pay the loan payments for the house and the first thing I know it's too late for me do anything. I have lost lots of money. I possibley owe the bank some money as they would have sold it for what they get and then try to get the money from me. The bank have not once sent me a letter, phone call or email in 2 years they just let it go on and on, when I call they wont speak with me, they say I have to go and see them, this is not an option at the moment.

My question is, if I owe money to the bank in Thailand will this effect my ILR application, do they check with banks?

The amount I would possibly owe them wont be more than B500,000

I hope someone can help? Thanks

If there are no criminal proceedings against you in Thailand (there should not be as this would be a civil case) then it should have absolutely no impact on your ILR application in the UK

You will need to show that you can support yourself or be supported adequately without recourse to public funds.

Your financial affairs in Thailand are irrelevant unless (as stated above) criminal charges have been brought or are in the pipeline. These must be declared on your application form.

I assume you will not be able to take action against the agent as you would be able to in the UK?

Thank you for this. I dont have anything criminal at all so it should be ok.

The agent is nowhere to be found now. Everything else with my application is good, I am working and my husband works too and I pass life in UK test too.

Thank you again, I feel much happy now.

This is not the first time i have heared of this Scam and thats what it is. because the letting agent know you are not around and there is no recourse unless you return to Thailand to fight your case..

The Agent maybe his terms of business finished once the visa was issued .I know my clients email me & we supply guidance for free unless they want me to make the application for them.

May I humbly suggest you read the OP's post before trying to tout for work....the agent referred to is the agent in Thailand who was looking after her rental property in Thailand and did a bunk and as a result the bank too the house back.....:whistling:
