hi all, im getting married in thailand next year and trying to get my head around the visa. there are many great guides on here that i will be making full use of, however my gf has never been abroad before and i am wandering does she need to come to the uk on a holiday visa, before applying for ILR? i think 7x7 has give me some great advice before about all this, but i've lost it, thanks all in advance, and good luck everyone

I presume you are getting married & applying for a settlement visa ?

  • You will receive a 27 month visa
  • The applicant must pass an A1 English test
  • X-Ray is required to ensure the applicant is TB Free
  • You must meet the maintenance & accommodation requirements
  • The applicant can qualify for ILR subject to passing the KOL requirements or ESOL, once she has spent the qualifying 2 year period in the UK

so no problems then it seems pretty straight forward and plain sailing according to that

thank you

I don't know you're personal circumstances so I cannot comment on that quote.

Also bear in mind there are more big changes to the current requirements proposed for next year, to com einto effect from April so you might want to get it sorted before then to avoid more hurdles....should they be implemented
