Echocardiogram In Bangkok

Featured Replies

I have finally saved up enough money to return to Thailand next month to get my colonoscopy and blood work done, and in addition to the colonoscopy, I will need to get an echocardiogram. Back in July and August of this year, I had pericardial effusion as well as A-Fib and I want to make sure neither has returned. I will also need to get an ultrasound done of my lungs because I also had a pleural effusion followed by pneumonia and I want to make sure the fluid has not returned to my lungs. (2011 has been a rough health year for me so far!)

If anyone here has had an echocardiogram (which is a sonogram of the heart as opposed to a simple EKG) could you tell me which hospital you went to and how much it cost? The last 2 times I had it done in the USA, it cost around $550 USD each time (around 15,000 baht) so while I am in Thailand I wouldnt mind having it done there. The $550 included the technician doing the Echo plus the doctors evaluation.

Also, did you trust the procedure you were given and would you go back and do it again with the same doctor?

Thanks!

Robert

All the major hospitals can do this. Cost will vary widely according to hospital.

For top care at reasonable price i suggest you see Dr. TAWORN SUITHICHAIYAKUL at Bangkok Chrisitian hospital on Silom. He is a very senior Professor at Chulalonghorn (major teaching hospital), but has private hours once a week at Bkk Christian.

He is US trained (UCLA) and top notch. I brought a firned's mother to him for evaluation and echo, forget the cost but it was certainly less than you pay in the US.

He is much in demand and only there from 10 - 12 on Saturdays and it is first come, first serve, so get there early. I'd say even as early as 8 AM since you'll need to register as a new patient.

Thanks for the info Sheryl. I will follow up when I am in Bangkok.

Echo at Bumrungard this past September was 4,500 baht and EKG was 555 baht. This does not include doctor fee which for my visit was 1,200 baht. He's not cheap but he has training at Michagan State and he's a good doctor.

Nowhereman do you remember if you had to make an appointment for the echo or was it first come first served?

I had one done at BNH in 2010. Cost for everything (doctor fee echocardiogram etc etc was) was about B6,500.
