Hello,

Ive done some reading up on trying to get my Thai gf a Work Visa in Ireland. Ive read you cant get her one for a job in Ireland as a waitress or porter etc but that you could apply as a Thai chef and would have a good chance. I run a restaurant/cafe in Ireland so i would be able to take care of things on this end but shes not a chef at all. Is it possible to "obtain" references in Thailand to give the impression she is a chef. She has a good contact in 1 Hotel that im sure would help but ive read you must have 3 references or is it a reference that spans 3 years????

Anyway most of the material ive read is about uk work visas so im not sure if this is similar in Ireland but any info would help. Also ive read that in England you have to post the vacancy for at least 2 months in the appropiate advertisement, is this also the case in Ireland??? Lastly i also read that you must prove that no eu candidates could fulfil the position, how can this be proved, will they ask to see actual replies and if so could i just throw away all of the good replies and show them unqualified replies or how does this work, how can they verify. And very lastly she already got a 3 month visa recently for another european country so im sure this might be an advantage but if she can get the references from Thailand is it a mere formality or what could be a possible reason for refusing it.

You have to list the job with FAS first then 6 weeks latter no replies or no one qualified,

get the job flaged then you can apply for a work visa but with the enlargement of the EU this is getting more and more diffacult.

Look at 1year at least.

Or visa for three months back for two visa for months and so on that way you got 8 months of the year with ya.

Them discovering that you've obtained false references for her will probably do it.

Presumably your caff sells Irish-type food, so the biggest question would be why you need a Thai cook, unless, of course, you change your entire menu. However, then you would be shafted as, by your own admission, she can't cook.

Scouse.

Yeah but i understood that you could just add 1 or 2 Thai dishes to the menu and this would suffice, she will get a job in the restaurant but not as a chef, id imagine they wouldnt expect you to change the menu until after the chef has arrived and even after she arrived would they even check up on the menu, would they really go to this length.

i was under the impression with a few bob tip i could have no problem getting paperwork to say she was a chef, she has a very good friend that owns a Hotel/Restaurant in Thailand that im sure would help if it was at all possible.

About the fas situation, i have used their site and have actually looked for a chef before through this without finding any suitable candidate so could i just say that i wasnt happy with some of the acceptable candidates, surely they cant force you to accept someone if your not happy with them even if they have suitable qualifications???

Thanks for your help

What is proposed is clearly an attempt to circumvent the Irish immigration rules and in breach of their laws. Should this post not be deleted since it contravenes forum rules? Don't wish to be a bore but presumably standards are there to be maintained. As an ex copper I feel compelled to comment, sorry.

I take your point, but, hopefully, the responses to the OP's question make it clear that circumvention of the rules is being discouraged.

Separately, as there hasn't been a flood of responses countenancing the OP's planned duplicity, I think he's got fed up and gone elsewhere.
