I Say Let Thaksin Come Back And Be Pm Again

Featured Replies

A bit controversial? I cant see much changing if he did come back and be PM again, what can he do? The world is a different place from 5 years ago, thats the problem with these red shirts, they are living in the past. What exactly do they think he can achieve? The world economy is the complete opposite of what it was during his tenure, there's no way Thailand could implement all his populist policies, we've already seen that the 300 baht daily wage and tablets for school children is not going to happen.

I think if he were PM again he would have a very tough job, look at the situation with the floods now. It wouldnt take long for people to see that he is no saviour.....

You're right the world has changed. Take this country for instance. In 2015, ASEAN legislation will allow for much easier sale of sovereign assets than ever before, including the movement of peoples of member countries. It's a veritable Gold mine for the wrong kind of leader to exploit as he and his cronies see fit.

It’s all about perception.

He still has a huge fan base and can’t do wrong really and as the saying goes in the land of the blind the one eyed man is king.

Occasionally but also the Bangkokpost too, Im not 'pro' or 'anti' Thaksin, just saying it how I see it.

The problem is the political landscape has changed significantly since Thaksin was last here and it is not a given that he will be able to deliver the political reform and prosperity that his current followers are expecting. Now they know they have the political power to make real changes they may become harder to control and manipulate.

World history has shown when dictatorial personalities are kicked out and then somehow manage to return to power, they then take off the gloves. So the fear of the potential ugliness of an all powerful returned Thaksin is well founded. The OP is assuming a normal democratic leader here. Bad assumption.

In his mind, revenge would not only be sweet, but an absolute necessity.

That's why it's dangerous.

OMG and the UK as good as booted him out?

As long as he keeps paying them the redshirt rabble will be there to back him up.

I think there may be some disappointment in the ranks when they find they won't be getting the same amount as when he had them camping out in the streets.

As for vengence and such, I would think he'd have to do some housecleaning to 'take care' of those who did some of his dirty deeds (like the blackshirts, who don't really exist) to cut his liabilities.

And then there's the military. A new level of hatred there. If he becomes PM it won't be for long, one way or the other.

But I don't think he will be PM himself, he'll remain a private citizen and be pulling the strings of a proxy, and remain out of the public eye. You think li'l sis is a piece of work? Wait until he installs Jatuporn!

Thai politics are all built on sand. What difference does it make who's currently leading. There is no will to maintain a rule of law, no moral compass, just a bunch of kids playing king of the hill. Soon the military will shuffle the deck and on and on it goes.

There is a certain amount of entertainment value in it though, and getting Thaksin back will ensure that continues
