If you're paying that much, just get a ford fiesta - larger, more powerful engine; much better gearbox. However, many Thais have a negative perception of Ford, so maybe she won't like this car. The other option is honda jazz / city, but these won't be available for quite some time due to flooding.

I agree with funcat, give the new nissan a look, the 1.2 should be fuel efficient and offers great space for the class, if the 1.2 is strained under the weight (likely) id be interested to see whether a 1.5 might of been a more appropriate power plant. Id get the ford fiesta over the mazda 2 which are essentially the same car as mazda/ford share platforms.

Interesting Observation . Thais have a Negative Perception of Ford... As a long time observer of Ferang /Thai Woman , ive noticed Toyota Fortuna or any Big Show Truck is Hi on the Gimme List , after the House next to Mom.. Im in the market for a Runabout and Fords out for me only by hearing Thais Moan about poor service with their Trucks outside major Cities, The Nissan looks very practical , but my ideal would be Ford Fiesta with an attractive design , that Bumble Bee Bum , really gets a No No from Er In Doors ,and she rarely notices what i drive , just whos Perfume she can smell in it.!! . So its Mitsu G.T... City,or Almeira shortlisted... My Sensible side still calls City.biggrin.gif

Yes over the last several year ford really haven't sold many cars here - but look at the dated lineup of focus, everest and escape. The fiesta has rave reviews from overseas and easily competes with honda jazz in those markets. Thais seem a bit slow to catch on to what's happening overseas. but those who are a bit more 'in the know' keep up with the news and don't just sheepishly follow the vios crowd (noting that the vios is a good car, but a little boring for my taste). As MRO will state, the fiesta is selling well here, maybe not as much as toyota or honda, but we can't expect that in the short term. I haven't seen a huge amount of marketing of the ranger here yet, but overseas it's massive, and it's destined to be popular there (though at 60K AU for the top model it'd pretty expensive). We wil be blessed to get it for 35K or so:)

But yes the service centres need a kick up the arse. But with more sales and traffic through their dealerships they are going to need to lift their game. Let's hope so anyway, as T and H need more competition in this country.

p.s. the March/almera will also be a great choice.

The Mazda 2 sport is a very likeable car. Has everything going for it, except there is no English

owners manual [so they say] and the media player is too complicated for my better halfr. It qualifies for the 100K rebate. It feels bigger than it is. Rides well and is nippy.. It would look better inside if she would take off the plastic wrappings

There are loads of aftermarket parts for this car too in Bangkok ...I'm sure you can get a manual for the mazda 2 as it's pretty much the same worldwide.
