The Earth (How Do I Say That In Thai?)

That's it, just โลก

ดาว means a star on the sky. Whether it's a planet or a star, it looks the same on the night sky so they are called the same.

ดาวเคราะห์ specifically means a planet.

The word ดาว is not usually used for earth.

But if you want to for example specify that the Earth is a planet in our solar system, you can use the word ดาวเคราะห์ for it.

โลกเราเป็นดาวเคราะห์ดวงหนึ่งในระบบสุริยะ

But if you just want say "we live on planet earth" or "global warming is a problem for planet earth" you can not use ดาวเคราะห์โลก (there is no such word)

The word โลก includes the meaning as both earth and planet earth.

It may not feel right for you to just say "โลก" but it's perfectly right in Thai. To say otherwise would not be right...

<snip>

The word ดาว is not usually used for earth.

How is it presumed that Thai-speaking humans born and raised on Mars would refer to Earth?

ดาวเคราะห์โลก is the formal name - literally "planet Earth".

If you want to read further, here is our planet's position in the solar system and galaxy: ดาวเคราะห์โลก. โลกเราใบนี้ เป็นดาวเคราะห์ทรงกลมที่เดินทางรอบดวงอาทิตย์อยู่ในบริเวณหนึ่งของจักรวาลที่เรียกว่า ทางช้างเผือก ( Milky Way )

OK, there is such a word as ดาวเคราะห์โลกม but only if you refer Earth in a astronomical perspective.

If you want to say something which happens on Earth, you can't use ดาวเคราะห์โลก.
