Hi everyone,

I am a British national with a Thai non-immigrant B single entry visa (started October this year). Can someone give me some more details about this visa - if I can leave the country and what I'd need to do to return? I was considering a train journey south through Malaysia to Singapore but then I remembered the "single entry" part of my visa which can't become multiple until 90 days after my visa start date.

Sorry if I sound clueless - I'm a Thai newbie!

A single entry allows you to stay for up to 90 days. If you want to leave the country and return, you need a re-entry permit at 1,000 baht. it only keeps your original permission to stay alive (so till somewhere in Jan.), it doesn't add any time.

A visa doesn't become multiple after 90 days. During the last 30 days of your permission to stay, you can visit immirgaiton and ask for an extension of stay for which you must qualify and will need a work permit. On tthe extension of stay you can also get a re-entry permit.

Thanks for the response!

Do I get the re-entry permit before I leave and from where? Also, do you know what I'll need (if anything) to go through Malaysia and Singapore?

a non B visa is valid for a year, and is multi entry, you can do a visa run, and get another 90 days, you do not NEED a WP for reentry, unless the authorities have changed this morning.

The OP clearly states he has a single entry.

A re-entry permit you get from an immigration office. In Bangkok you can get one at Chaing Wattana Road or on saturdays at Suan Plu

Normally no visa required for a British national.

Do you know if a re-entry permit is usually granted instantly and if there's a minimum length of time between getting the permit and leaving the country? It doesn't mention on the website that Saturday is the only day for Suan Plu but I trust that you know.

A re-entry permit is issued on the spot, might take about 10 minutes.

beleiev Mo to Fri is only if you use the mail in service:

For a re-entry permit,if you are in Bangkok area and you have an Internet access, you could fill in a TM. 8 form and send it to [email protected]— You should e-mail the completed form 1 day in advance.—

You have to submit a 2" photo and pay a permit fee at counter 7, the Immigration Bureau (soi suanplu office.) Fee for re-entry permit:

1,000 Bahts for single

3,800 Bahts for multiple

I did not know that a single entry 'B' was issued?

All non-immigrant visas are issued single or multiple. In the neigbourhood often only single is issued.

You need to conatct the labour office and apply for a work permit. The labour office will issue a wp3 form, which is needed to apply for a non-B visa in a neighbouring country. He will also need to provide additional compnay papers, as well as a letter from the employer.

General information here: http://www.mfa.go.th/web/2482.php?id=2492

Keep in mind the visa equirements for the country he will be applying in.

A work eprmit will be no problem, but extensions of stay from immirgation will not be possible till you can show tax-documents for 2 years.

He will first get a single non-B and stay for 90 days. After that, when he has the work permit, he can get a multiple non-B, and must leave the country every 90 days. The single plus the multiple non-B will be good for up to 18 months, after which he needs another multiple non-B.

I now have a re-entry permit but I've just found a leaflet which I was given that says to leave the country I'll need a re-entry permit, work permit and visa extension or my work visa will be cancelled. I applied for my work permit a few days ago and I'm picking it up when I return from my trip on 9th January.

I first entered Thailand on the 21st October, have a non-immigrant B visa, have been working at a school since 1st November and have a pending work permit. Can someone confirm what I'll need to leave and reenter thailand?

You just need the re-entry permit and you enter that information as your visa data when you return - make sure they provide the same January stamp date you now have. Once you have your work permit you will want to extend for one year (if eligible) or you will have to leave to obtain a new non immigrant B visa for a new 90 day stay. Once you have an extension of stay you must remember to obtain a re-entry permit prior to any travel or it will be lost, just as your current visa entry would be lost without using a re-entry permit.
